10 Indian Motorcycles With Beefy-Looking Fuel Tanks

Designing a motorcycle is not an easy task especially considering the number of parts that go into making one. Among them, one particular part of the motorcycle should have both form and function in order to impress the buyer. And that is the fuel tank. Designing a fuel tank that looks beefy but can store only 9 or 10 litres of fuel is useless. So, to make things easier for you, we have made a list of motorcycles with beefy fuel tanks that can store more than 13 litres and are below 500cc.

  1. KTM Duke 125/200/250/390 | Capacity – 13.5 Litres

First on the list with a little more than 13 litres is the Duke series. The KTM Duke 125, 200, 250 and 390 now come with 13.5 litres of capacity. All thanks to the 2017 Duke 390 update that has now trickled down to all the models in the Duke series. With that update, the Duke got an aggressive style with a bigger fuel tank helping those who want to cover longer distances with minimum fuel stops. We appreciate the fact that even the baby Dukes get the same style and bigger tank, but what we don’t appreciate is the higher asking price considering that the mechanicals remains the same.

  2. Yamaha FZ 25 | Capacity – 14 Litres

The Yamaha FZ 25 is the manufacturer’s first motorcycle to be built ground-up specifically for the Indian market. While the design is heavily inspired by the FZ 150, it looked excellent, and the best part was the value for money quotient. It happens to be the most affordable quarter-litre motorcycle with enough power and torque to make it an amazing street bike. With 14 litres of fuel tank capacity and mileage of almost 40-42 kmpl on the highways, you can cover a distance of a whopping 560 km before stopping for fuel. Isn’t that amazing?

  3. Jawa/Jawa 42 | Capacity – 14 Litres

The Royal Enfield Classic 350 might be the king of the segment, but I personally prefer the Jawa, especially the Jawa 42 2.0, over the Classic. The primary reason for that would be the great engine which is miles ahead in refinement compared to the Classic 350, and it is more suited for long highway hauls. The 14-litre fuel tank is the cherry on top, making it go further on a single fill-up. The Jawa 42 2.0 is friendly in the city and has a decent fuel efficiency to make it an amazing package.

  4. KTM 390/250 Adventure | Capacity – 14.5 Litres

Another KaTooM in this list is the Adventure series. With 14.5 litres, it does grant you the freedom to explore unchartered territories, but one must keep in mind that both the 390 Adventure and 250 Adventure are not hardcore off-roaders. They are the best Adventure-Tourers, though, and have a total range of around 400kms on the 390 Adventure and around 490-500kms on the 250 Adventure. Both are comfortable mile munchers, and the 390 Adventure comes with a Quickshifter as standard in case you’re in the mood to have some fun.

  5. Bajaj Pulsar 150/180/180F/220F | Capacity – 15 Litres

The motorcycles that brought about a revolution in our country are still soldiering on with decent sales even after two decades, which is impressive. These four models come with beefy fuel tanks that have a capacity of 15 litres. The fuel tanks have an impressive design that is great to hold with your thighs and offer great comfort. On the Pulsar 150 and 180, that amounts to roughly 730+kms on a single tank, which means one full tank is more than enough to carry you through an entire month of commuting in the city. While on the Pulsar 180F and 220F, you can tour for 675+kms on a single tank which translates to lesser fuel stops and more enjoyment on the road.

  6. Royal Enfield Himalayan | Capacity – 15 Litres

The Royal Enfield Himalayan is a totally different breed than the other Royal Enfields, and it has everything required to prove it. It stays true to its off-road character in design, engine, suspension and beefy fuel tank. The fuel tank has a total capacity of 15 litres which is good for almost 480kms of range. This we feel is more than enough range to go to places where other motorcycles can only dream of, and the Himalayan goes there in style.

  7. Honda Hness CB350/ CB350 RS | Capacity – 15 Litres

The only Honda on this list to feature a beefy fuel tank is the Honda Hness CB350 and its updated sibling, the CB350 RS. Both have a similar fuel tank with a striking design and an excellent paint job that can store 15 litres of fuel. The fuel tanks are not just beefy but are designed well in such a way that you can grip them well with your thighs. This makes it comfortable for long rides as well as commuting through the busy city traffic.

  8. Royal Enfield Meteor 350 | Capacity – 15 Litres

The Royal Enfield Meteor 350 is a cruiser, and one of the crucial aspects of a cruiser is its ability to cruise long distances with minimal fuel stops. The Meteor’s fuel tank sticks with that philosophy not only with respect to the form but function as well. The teardrop design of the fuel tank feels beefy when you sit on the saddle and grip it. It is also good for holding 15 litres of fuel on a single fill-up which translates to almost 525kms. That is a good number when you consider the grunt of the engine and how easily the motorcycle handles triple-digit speeds. So if you want a good-looking long-distance cruiser, look no further.

  9. Kawasaki Ninja 300 | Capacity – 17 Litres

    Kawasaki Ninja 300

Usually, faired Supersports motorcycles are known to have a slim fuel tank design and hold a lesser amount of fuel because the design needs to be edgy and aerodynamic. The narrower the cross-section at the front, the lesser air friction while riding. The Kawasaki Ninja 300 achieves these aerodynamic requirements and yet manages to store 17 litres of fuel. Yes, you read that right. It holds freaking 17 litres of liquid gold. Add to that a mileage of 30kmpl, and it is good for 510kms of blissful cruising. With the reliability and refinement of a Kawasaki, you will never regret the money spent on this beautiful monster.

  10. Mahindra Mojo | Capacity – 21 Litres

    Mahindra Mojo

And our winner for today’s list of motorcycles with beefy fuel tanks is the Mahindra Mojo. What started out as a faired supersport on the sketchbooks came out very differently in the form of an amazing cruiser. Something that you will absolutely love about this motorcycle is the engine. The motor is heavily inspired by the Moto3 engine that Mahindra used in the Moto3 races, and of course, it is detuned, but the refinement and power delivery are heavenly. This makes it an amazing cruiser, and with 21 litres of fuel, you can literally fill it, shut it and forget it for about 630kms. The design of the fuel tank is beefy and very comfortable to hold for really long distances.

Just because Mojo has the largest fuel tank, we are not saying it is the best bike for anyone out there as each one’s requirements are not the same. But if you are considering a motorcycle with a good design and has a beefy fuel tank that holds a lot of fuel and is interested in touring long distances, then this list should help you clear your confusion.

Do you think any other motorcycle is worthy of being on this list not only for having a beefy fuel tank in design but also for having good capacity? Then please let us know in the comments. And we would also love to know which other factors you would love to be listed that will help buyers decide the right bike for them.
