Tata Motors is proudly celebrating the #NexonEV50kCommunity, as this is the electric car that played a major role in defining the perspective of EVs in India. From the time when EVs were considered small and not desirable, now people are choosing EVs as daily-driveable vehicles with a real-world range. The ICE Nexon’s familiar design also played an integral role in smoothing this transition.

Considering the response, Tata has also expanded its EV lineup with the Nexon EV Max, Tigor EV, and Tiago EV. With a diverse lineup, they have made electric vehicles more accessible to a wider audience across the country. Mr. Vivek Srivatsa, Head of Marketing, Sales, and Service Strategy, Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd., commented on this milestone:

“The Nexon EV was introduced as India’s own electric SUV with the aim of offering a cool, stylish, practical and real-world solution for faster EV adoption in India. The Nexon EV customers have grown to 50K in just 3 years. This is a testament to how India has embraced EVs as the mobility of the current times. We would like to thank the early adopters, who believed in the promise of the Nexon EV and in turn, allowed the EV ecosystem to build and become what it is now. We hope more people experience the promise of an EV and evolve to electric.”

India has had a hard time receiving electric vehicles and transforming them due to range anxiety. Numerous initiatives have been taken by the government and companies to make this transition feasible with increasing charging stations, but it takes time in the real world. The EV charging infrastructure has come a long way, with about 6,000 charging stations at the moment and still growing at a rate of 1500% between FY21 & FY23, This shows the speedy expansion.

This EV contributed to 15% of total Nexon sales, which is notable as the ICE Nexon is the most popular SUV in the segment. Tata holds about 80% of the 4-wheeler EV market in India, followed by MG and Mahindra. The brand is also working on launching an electric version of the Altroz, Punch, Harrier, and Safari in the future.
