The Iconic Mahindra Thar is ready to be reborn again, The next-gen Mahindra Thar is surely gonna be the next big thing from the homegrown carmaker.
The 2020 Mahindra Thar was originally scheduled to be showcased at the Auto Expo 2020, but for reason was taken down in the last minute for reasons unknown.
The same happened with its launch as it was supposed to launch after the Expo but due to the on-going coronavirus pandemic was postponed to an indefinite date. After almost 4 months of crucial wait, Mahindra has finally revealed the next-gen off-roader. Let’s have a look at the new age Thar beholds.

The Power-Packed new age Off-roader
- The petrol variant features a 2.0-lite mstallion 150TGDI gasoline engine capable of pushing 150hp with 320Nm of peak torque.
- The diesel variant will come equipped with mhawk 130 engine generating 130hp with 320 Nm of peak torque.
- Both the engines will come paired to a standard 6-speed manual and a brand new 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.
- The new age Thar holds an authentic manual shift 4×4 transfer case as standard across all its variants.
- The Thar has been built on the brand’s trusted 3rd gen chassis with great tractional setup alongside an all-new suspension setup for great off-road power and stable grip on city roads.
- The new Next-gen off-roader also holds a water wading ability of 650mm with a 226 mm of ground clearance.
The feature-loaded SUV?
- On the inside, the next-gen Mahindra Thar gets a new contemporary and purposeful interior with features like height adjustable and lumbar adjustable front seats alongside a 50:50 layout 2nd row.
- It also gets 4 roof-mounted speakers to get that weekend vibe into full swing.
- Surprisingly this time around Mahindra has integrated a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with weather resistance switches, compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
- it also gets a first-in-class adventure status display with features like G-monitor, compass, wheel angle, torque and speed.
- The next-gen Mahindra Thar also gets a brand new instrument cluster with a coloured TFT display with a multifunctional old-skool steering wheel and cruise control.
On the outside, it also features a brand new front layout with a new four slat front grille and new LED headlamp setup, upsized tyres, high ground clearance and four skid plates adds numbers to its design elements.
The Safest off-roader
- On the safety front, it offers dual airbags with ABS and EBD, hill-hold, hill descent control, ESP with Roll-over mitigation.
- It also gets an integrated roll cage with 3-point seatbelt and ISOFIX mounts on the second row.
