Ola Electric is an electric two-wheeler brand in India. It is currently making the second generation of its popular electric scooter, S1. The latest offerings by Ola are present in the forms of S1 Pro, S1 Air, and S1 X.
However, in recent years, there has been news about Ola’s plans for an electric sports car with an all-glass roof in the coming years that could hit 100 km/h within four seconds, which were laid out by Ola’s founder Bhavish Aggarwal. This was a very brave and out-of-the-box move from the Bangalore-based company.
Shedding Plans For the Electric Car
All the excitement went in vain as Ola Electric has shelved its electric car launch plans since the company wants to concentrate on its e-scooter business. This is bad news for the Indian car market. This car was supposed to be the first ever Indian mass-market sports car. The effect that this car would have had on the whole electric car acceptance scenario would be immense. Ola came all guns blazing with their first electric two-wheeler. It was an instant success. The electric vehicle market gained new energy and has seen success since then.
There have been reports that Ola’s car project has been put off for at least two years as the focus remains on two-wheeler sales and battery production. Neither Ola Electric nor Bhavish Aggarwal respond to the questions arising for their company.
GoMechanic’s Take on This
Likely, the car would also have been a great success. It would have been a tough competitor for the upcoming Teslas in India. As we have seen that Ola has been very active with their Electric scooter’s development and improvements, it is very obvious that their car would also be subjected to continuous improvements. This would have been good for creating a sense of competition in the Indian market.
