The smart hybrid system is an interesting piece of technology. it uses two batteries instead of one and has a small electric motor. the electric motor always starts the car from neutral or when the ignition is turned on thus saving fuel.
There is more to SHVS though. It also comes with a regenerative braking system which recharges the battery automatically when you apply brakes by converting kinetic energy into electrical energy using the motor as a generator.

The biggest advantage offered by the SHVS system is the boost in fuel economy. As the car is using less fuel because of some of the work being done by the electric motor.
The SHVS system is currently available in Ciaz, Ertiga, XL6, Baleno and S-Cross. This is the first time manual variants will be getting the smart hybrid system.
