The fourth generation of Maruti Suzuki Swift was launched on 9th May 2024. This generation saw various upgrades in the popular hatchback. It retained the Mini Cooper-like silhouette. It now looks more striking than any of its other generations. In the Indian subcontinent, Maruti’s have never been known for their safety or build quality. However, recent launches and upgrades made by Maruti are focused mainly on safety.
Recently, their cars have been getting good safety ratings at respective testing agencies. The new made-in-Japan Swift 2024 has been tested by the Euro NCAP.
Safety Ratings:
The Swift managed to score 3 stars in the latest rounds of Euro NCAP.
– 67 percent in Adult occupant protection (AOP)
– 65 percent in Child occupant protection (COP)
– 62 percent for Safety assist systems
– 76 percent for Vulnerable road users (VRU)
What’s Important for India-Made Swift 2024?
Adult Occupant Protection Rating:
The Swift scored 67 percent in the Adult occupant protection. The breakdown of scored points will be as:
– Frontal impact tests – Euro NCAP awarded 10.5 out of 16 points
– Lateral impact tests – 11.5 out of 16 points
– Rear impact tests – 4 out of 4 points
Child Occupant Protection Rating:
– 6-year-old and 10-year-old – 14.1 out of 24 points
– Safety features – 6 out of 13 points
– Children restraint system – 12 out of 12 points
What GoMechanic Speculates?
The ratings are based on the Japanese-made Swift 2024. This safety rating will not be very accurate for the India-manufactured Swift. The Japan spec Swift comes standard with many brilliant safety features like:
– 6 airbags
– ISOFIX anchors
– Seat belt reminders
– Many ADAS features like Autonomous emergency braking, Lane changing assist, and Driver fatigue detection
These features allowed the Swift to score well for vulnerable road users’ protection. We expect that this rating will not be useful for Indian car. The Adult Occupant Protection rating for Indian Swift would be more or less similar to this test. The India-made Swift has 2 airbags through the range. It has seat belt reminders and ISOFIX seat anchors. These features will help the made-in-India Swift to score similarly in the Child Occupant Protection.
Maruti has been continuously improving their build quality by improving the metal sheet quality and better damping in the doors. We expect that the new Swift will be much safer than the previous generations of Swift in India. The previous generation Swift scored a zero-star safety rating in the Latin NCAP in 2021. A 3-star rating from Euro NCAP is a good point to start a journey towards safer cars.
