The Government of Kerala has recently ordered 65 units of India’s safest car, the Tata Nexon EV for the Kerala Motor Vehicle Department. The order has been made as part of the state’s ‘Safe Kerala Project’ initiative under which electric vehicles are being leased by the Energy Efficient Services Limited (EESL), a Central Government institution that which comes under the Ministry Of Power.
Once the entire fleet is delivered, the government plans to add some additional safety equipment such as speed cameras, radars, sirens, etc. Additionally, the designated fleet will be on-duty 24×7 with only a single home guard officer during the day and two officers during the night. Reports also suggest the 65 Nexon EV’s have been leased for 8 years. These 65 EV’s will be deployed to maintain the motor vehicle rules and regulations, along with road discipline within its designated area
After the procurement is complete the government also plans to set up 65 individual fast-charging stations which will be used only by EESL. However, rumours also suggest that the designated charging station could also be made available to the general public as well.
