Tata never stops innovating. Petrol, diesel, and electric engines weren’t enough, so now it has confirmed launching a CNG engine for its best-selling compact SUV variant “Nexon”. Recently, Tata displayed glimpses of the upcoming iCNG variant at the Bharat Mobility Show. The brand hasn’t publicly stated any specific information regarding the launch or add-on specifications of this new variant, which has created a sense of thrill among the people. So what actually can we expect from this new iCNG variant? Here are a few speculations.
Engine updates: Existing Nexon variants come with a 1.2L turbocharged engine. The same is expected from the iCNG variant. If it comes true, then the Tata Nexon iCNG variant will become the first CNG car in India to possess a turbocharged engine.
Duo Cylinder Technology: Tata Motors is the only brand in India to incorporate twin CNG cylinder technology in its cars. Tata Tiago, Punch, and Altrol feature twin CNG cylinders, and the same is speculated for Nexon iCNG. Two small cylinders instead of one large cylinder create more space and are more convenient.
Gearbox Updates: The petrol and diesel variants of Tata Nexon feature a 6-speed AMT option and a 5-speed MT option since they possess a turbocharged engine. If the new iCNG segment possesses the same engine, it will feature a 6-speed AMT option as well. If not, then it’ll feature the standard 5-speed manual transmission just like other CNG cars in this segment.
Fire Extinguisher Placement: Since it’s going to be a CNG vehicle, it will certainly feature a fire extinguisher for safety purposes. The catch is, where will the extinguisher be placed inside the cabin? Usually, it’s placed in the spaces where it can cause discomfort. However, Tata is famous for concise placements, so we can expect a better placement of extinguishers in the car.
When to Expect the Launch?
Tata Motors has confirmed launching the new iCNG variant by the end of this financial year. As of sources, it is expected that the new Nexon will be in the market by the end of 2024 only. Moreover, Tata being Tata, it can launch the new Nexon even earlier, maybe in the next few months. No one can predict them.
