The New LT7 C8 Chevy Corvette ZR1 Unveiled

There have been many changes since the last ZR1 came out five years ago. The most powerful cars today are electric, and Corvette engines now push from behind the driver. However, the ZR1 is still the race car with a muscle car mentality. The most recent and powerful iteration of Chevrolet’s C8 Corvette supercar lineup, the 2025 Corvette ZR1, has been unveiled.

With the most potent V8 engine ever produced by an American automaker, the 2017 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 is available in two body styles: coupe and convertible.

The Small-Block Chevy V-8 Engine

A 5.5-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine (the LT7) featuring a flat-plane crank is present in the new Corvette. The LT7, like the LT6 in the Corvette Z06, has eight forged cylinders that spin a flat-plane crankshaft. This makes the engine rev faster and higher, but it also causes side-to-side vibrations that are strong enough to shake the oil filter off the V-8 if they are not stopped. The engine has undergone extensive modifications, such as bigger combustion chambers, an upgraded intake system, twin-turbochargers incorporated into the exhaust manifold, new head castings, and optimized valve train timing and lift profile.
