Japanese carmaker Toyota’s sister brand Lexus has been working on a new sub-4 metre SUV (Codenamed BX) which is likely to be based on the Toyota Yaris Cross. Rumour also has the new Yaris Cross based SUV will be placed under the already existing UX crossover SUV.
However, not much is revealed of the Toyota Yaris Cross based SUV, we can expect the Lexus BX to be based on the TNGA-B platform which also underpins the Yaris Cross sub-4 metre SUV. under its hood, the new Lexus compact SUV is likely to feature a 1.5-litre petrol-electric hybrid powertrain capable of generating 116hp.

It is also expected the standard variants will come equipped with a CVT gearbox option as well. Rumour also has it that a new limited edition ‘faster F’ variant is also being said to be in works.

The styling is expected to be to the likes of the other Lexus SUVs. Not only that the inside also sees a premium makeover to match the quality and luxurious feel of other Lexus models.
Lexus has taken the right decision to base the BX sub-metre SUV on the upcoming Toyota Yaris Cross as it holds the right size and specifications for the domestic market. However, TKM already dedicated itself to introduce its own version of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza to fill the crossover-shaped hole for its India 2.0 lineup. With that being said it is highly likely that its Sub-brand Lexus could be highly interested in bringing the Toyota Yaris Cross based SUV called BX to Indian shores by late 2020 or mid-2021.
