Car prices have been increasing rapidly over the last few years. Luxury cars like the Skoda Octavia and the Superb that would once cost less than Rs. 20 Lakhs now sit at prices between Rs. 30-45 Lakhs. Considering this inflation, buying a used car makes a lot of sense, especially when looking for an expensive German. Today, let’s see if a used Skoda Superb is worth buying in 2022!
How much does a Superb cost right now?
As of today, a new Skoda Superb starts at Rs. 34.16 Lakhs for the Sportline, and the top-spec L&K costs Rs. 37.26 Lakhs. Both prices are ex-showroom. On-road prices can go well over Rs. 45 Lakhs in some states in India.
What do we get for this price?
Well, the Superb in general is a very loaded car. It competes with some of the luxury sedans such as the Mercedes Benz C Class, BMW 3 Series, and the Audi A4. the Superb also gets a very powerful petrol engine. It is a 2L turbocharged unit that makes 190HP and 320nm. When compared to these sedans that cost over Rs. 55 Lakhs, the Superb seems like an excellent, cheaper alternative that feels almost just as luxurious. Apart from the generous use of leather and soft touches all around the cabin, the Superb has a lot of tech and features onboard. Some of them are:
- 360-view park assist
- Panoramic sunroof
- Heated/Ventilated seats
- Electric tailgate
- 12-way, electrically adjustable front seats with memory function
- Canton sound system with 11 speakers and 1 subwoofer
- Connected car tech
- Adaptive LED headlights
- ABS, EBD
- Massage function for the driver seat
How much does a used Skoda Superb cost?
On average, a used Skoda Superb currently costs Rs. 20 Lakhs. This is for a car less than 5 years old and in immaculate condition. An older model, say from 2010 or 2011 can be bought for as low as Rs. 6 Lakhs. Diesel models manufactured before 2012 specifically, are selling for very low prices. But with emission norms changing so quickly, a 10-year-old diesel car wouldn’t be the best purchase right now. Moreover, the older the model gets, the more features you will have to compromise on. On the other hand, a 4 to 5-year-old Superb will still have at least 90% of the above-mentioned features.
Should you buy a used Skoda Superb?
If you’re considering a model less than 5 years old, and in good condition, a Superb can be a very good alternative to something like a Hyundai Creta. The Rs. 20 Lakhs will show its value when you sit inside the cabin and step on the accelerator. However, an older model would be a risky purchase. This is primarily because of the DSG. This gearbox is known to be troublesome and people have spent lakhs of rupees trying to get their cars fixed. So, even if you do get a Superb for under Rs. 10 Lakhs, you might have to spend a lot of money if the car breaks down.
