The production-spec model of Volkswagen’s new ID.4 electric SUV has been revealed. This electric SUV is scheduled to launch in the international markets sometime this year. The images of the production-ready model were part of the documents submitted by Volkswagen to China’s MIIT (Ministry of Industry and Information Technology) for approval. The Volkswagen ID.4 will act as a direct rival to the pre-existing Hyundai Kona and the upcoming Tesla Model Y in the International market.
Volkswagen ID.4 Electric Powertrain
The new VW ID.4 cross will have a single electric motor with rear-wheel drive configuration. A new twin-motor 4WD version is also rumoured to join the line-up i the hearing future.
The rear-mounted single electric motor on the VW ID.4 will generate 201bhp with 310Nm of peak torque. However, the rumoured twin-motor 4WD version will feature a front-mounted electric motor generating and additional 102bhp with 140Nm of peak torque. So the combined power and torque on the ID.4 Cross will stand at around 306bhp with 450Nm of peak torque.

The leaked documents also suggest that the new VW ID.4 cross will measure 4,592mm in length, 1,852mm in width and 1,629mm in height along with a wheelbase of 2,765mm. It will be placed above the ID.3 electric hatchback, which is already on sale in the International market.
Volkswagen ID.4 Features
Coming to the most important part the VW ID.4 has taken some styling cues from its hatchback cousin the Volkswagen ID.3 hatchback. The new Electric SUV will feature new sleek LED headlamps that are connected to the light bar at the front-end, which might become a familiar design for the future ID electric range. It also features an almost square front design, giving it a much bulkier and SUV type look.
Volkswagen ID.4 | Expected Launch & Rivals
As stated earlier the ID.4 electric SUV will is scheduled to launch later this year and will rival the likes of the Hyundai Kona and the upcoming Tesla Model Y in the International market.
Volkswagen might also be considering to launch its new electric crossover in India first as the german brand did showcase the suspected Indian variant of the ID.4 the VW I.D. Crozz at the Auto Expo 2020 and it did manage to get ample amount of attention at the motor show.
Moreover, Juergen Stackmann, member of the board of management for sales, marketing and after-sales for Volkswagen said that the company is actively considering adding electric vehicles to its line-up in India. So this means that we can somewhat expect the VW ID.4 electric SUV to hit Indian shores by 2021.
