Hyundai came into the Indian market with the Hyundai Santro, which belonged to the affordable vehicle segment. But slowly, this Korean carmaker also decided to pitch the elite car buyers. In 2004 the company launched a premium compact SUV in India, the Tucson. The vehicle was doing reasonably good when compared to its competition until lately. In 2016, Hyundai gave this SUV a thorough update post which very less has changed, making the vehicle a little boring. That said, Hyundai has launched the next generation of Tucson in the international market. Now the question comes, will it come to India?
If yes, what will the new Hyundai Tucson pack? let’s have a look.
-
Will the Indian iteration follow the same design?
In one word, yes. Hyundai will carry forward the same aesthetics to the Indian version too. This means, the new Hyundai Tucson in India will get a radical design change and will be in sync with the same design scheme of other vehicles from this brand, like the Hyundai Creta and Hyundai Palisade. Additionally, in the International market, Tucson gets a couple of wheel base options.
Though the regular Tucson is 10mm longer, 15mm wider and 10mm taller than the outgoing Tucson. The long-wheelbase version is a whopping 150mm longer. That said, here in India, we might only get a 7-seater variant of this SUV.

The new features Hyundai Tucson might come with?
Hyundai is known to offer a load of features on the inside. Unlike the current-gen Tucson, the 2022 Tucson is expected to come with a totally different exterior and interior. With the updated design both, outside a well as the inside, the features list is also expected to be updated. For instance, the new Tucson might come with a bigger infotainment screen in the centre. With that, an all-digital instrument cluster is also on the list of our expectations.

What’s under the hood of the 2022 Hyundai Tucson?
We expect the new Hyundai to come with the same set of engines as the current gen. These are 2.0-litre Naturally aspirated petrol that is healthy enough to generate 150bhp and 192Nm of peak torque. A diesel mill might also be the go-to choice outside of Delhi NCR. This motor is also a 2.0-liter unit but is turbocharged. It produces 182bhp of max power and 400Nm of torque. Both the engines come with a 6 speed AT and an 8 speed AT respectively.
-
Will the new Tucson be safe?
On the safety front, expect the 2022 Hyundai Tucson to come loaded with features. The talking point has to be the ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) along with other passive and active safety features. These include the regular, 6-airbags, Tyre pressure monitoring, and more. The ADAS features might include, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, and others.

What will be the expected price of the new Hyundai Tucson?
The current model sold in India starts at Rs. 22.69 Lakh (ex-showroom) for the base trim. Considering its rivals the likes of Citroen C5 Aircross and Jeep Compass the price is likely to go up. We anticipate the new Hyundai Tucson to start somewhere from Rs. 24 Lakh (ex-showroom).
