Maruti Suzuki will launch the 2022 Baleno next month with a significant list of changes & upgrades. This is a much-needed update if Maruti wants to continue ruling the particular hatchback segment. It will help tackle rivals such as i20 & Altroz better and maintain Baleno’s position at the top.

There are various new things, from a reworked & more aggressive exterior to a fresh interior and additional safety features. Let’s see what we expect:
-
Fresh Cabin
A significant update would be a fresh interior for the hatchback. The all-new cabin will have a free-standing centre console with the aircon vents below. This would be the highlight inside the cabin with upmarket upholstery& a basic heads-up display.

The spy shots do not reveal much about the interior. But we can observe clear set dials with a multi-information display in the middle. A digital instrument cluster is missed out on, and it carries the same flat-bottom steering wheel as the Swift.
-
Stronger & Safer
Maruti Suzuki is also working on making safer cars & the new Baleno will be equipped with 6-airbags for the top variants. Dual front airbags and side curtain airbags for both front & rear rows. The top trims might also be equipped with ESP for better stability.

In addition, better grade steel will be used for the Baleno to provide a better build quality. Maruti will redo the outer body panels and significant parts of the chassis with thicker steel to give a more solid feel. This may not effectively make the car rigid but will be reassuring.

Ditching CVT?
The new Baleno will be priced competitively which due to which the pricey CVT might be ditched to drop the price a little. The AMT transmission from Swift will be carried to replace the ongoing CVT; the AMT variants will be around ₹60,000 costlier. No paddle shifters are expected, but users can switch gears themselves too.

This would affect the smooth ride of the CVT; however, it would help to capture more markets with the rising competition. The price will be slightly hiked, and the expected range could be from ₹6.5-10 lakhs. It has already hit the 10lakh units milestone since 2015, and the dealers expect this to be a massive hit in the given price.
