2022 Maruti Suzuki Baleno Variants And Colours Revealed

The Maruti Suzuki Baleno has been one of the highest-selling premium hatchbacks in our country ever since its release in 2015. Apart from the safety issue that Maruti Suzuki is not bothering about, the Baleno is a very capable hatchback primarily because of its spacious and premium interiors. Maruti Suzuki is ready to give the Baleno a facelift, and we did see many spy shots revealing a lot of details. According to the most recent leaked document, the 2022 Maruti Suzuki Baleno variants and colours have been revealed.

Without much ado, here is all the information we can gather from the leak:

1. Variants
   

   

   The nomenclature of 2022 Baleno variants remain the same and will continue to be offered in four variants: Sigma, Delta, Zeta and Alpha. The manual gearbox will be provided by default on all variants, while the automatic variants will be offered on all variants except the base model. The most noticeable change will be in the automatic variants as the CVT gearbox, which is slightly more expensive, will be replaced by a new AMT gearbox in order to make the automatic variants more affordable.

2. Colours
   

   

   The 2022 Maruti Suzuki Baleno colour options are limited to six: Pearl Arctic White, Splendid Silver, Grandeur Grey, Celestial Blue, Opulent Red, and Luxe Beige. Maruti Suzuki claims that apart from the white colour, all the others will be a new shade compared to the outgoing models, and we are very interested to see how different they are. All the colours are metallic paints and will have a high gloss finish. We think at least one matte option as a special edition would have been good.

3. Engine and Transmission
   

   

   Maruti Suzuki has confirmed that the new Baleno will be powered by the same 1.2-litre DualJet petrol engine with a 12V mild-hybrid technology, and this engine puts out 90hp of power and 113Nm of torque. These figures are not class-leading, but due to its wide-body stance, the Baleno has an abundance of road grip, and its steering is well calibrated. So if the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol that was last seen on the Baleno RS is re-introduced, it will give a tough fight against the Polo TSi, i20 Turbo and the Altroz Turbo. But we do not have any official confirmation from the manufacturer yet, so we keep our fingers crossed.

4. Features
   

   

   It is the interiors that are expected to get more updates than the Baleno variants and colours being offered. The dashboard layout is all-new, and this time it will sport a 10-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system, wireless charger, premium leatherette seats, multifunctional flat-bottom steering wheel, new design for the AC console, wireless Android Auto and Apple Carplay, horizontal vents etc. The latest highlight of the cabin, though, will be the Heads-Up Display(HUD) that will be offered on the top-end variant, and although it looks cool, it is a very useful feature as well.

5. Rivals
   

   

   The hatchback segment is the only segment that is holding its own against the rise of the SUVs, and this is mostly because of the affordability and practicality of the hatchbacks. The Baleno and the i20 are the segment leaders, and the top spot is always exchanged between them while the rest of the gang is left in the dust in terms of sales numbers. A slight increase in any of the other models will threaten the Baleno, and the Altroz is managing to do exactly that. The timeless VW Polo, along with its impressive 1.0-litre TSi engine, has managed to garner a lot of attention and is doing well too. The Honda Jazz and Toyota Glanza are silent spectators in the group as they only tend to sell a few hundred units every month.
