The Tata HBX is the Perfect Budget SUV. 8 Reasons Why!

With Tata Motors confirming the launch of the Tata HBX Micro SUV along with the Gravitas 7-Seater (Harrier) SUV. It seems like the end of 2020 is going to end on a good note. Tata confirmed that they will be launching the HBX by the end of 2020 or the first quarter of 2021. The Gravitas, on the other hand, will launch by Diwali 2020. Let’s look at some factors that make the Tata HBX the perfect budget SUV.

1. It’s based on the IMPACT 2.0 design

   

   The Tata HBX carries Tata’s IMPACT 2.0 design philosophy (same as on the Altroz) featuring split headlamps, a flat-ish bonnet, skid plates and bumper-mounted indicators.

   Moreover, the HBX mini SUV is based on the same ALFA platform as the Tata Altroz. That translates to more cabin space, more headroom, more legroom and overall more comfort. And very similar to the Altroz, the HBX will have doors which will open to up to 90 degrees.

2. NO Diesel, Petrol Only

   

   The HBX will be powered by the same 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine that does duty on the Altroz, Tigor and the Tiago. The car will also come with a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT. This 1.2-litre motor produces 85 bhp and 110 nm of peak torque. Tata has not commented on the inclusion of a diesel engine and has recently discontinued the 1.05-litre turbo-diesel unit.

3. The smallest Tata car yet

   

   The HBX is the Tata’s smallest car built on the ALFA platform. Even smaller than the Altroz. This is evident by those small 15-inch wheels and overall compact dimensions. But kudos to Tata on the design part, as the car looks apart with its SUV-ish looks thanks to the flat bonnet, faux skid plates, roof and a taller stance.

4. Might also come as an EV

   

   As the HBX is based on the same ALFA platform as the Altroz, there are chances that Tata might introduce the SUV as an EV. Tata has used its Ziptron EV technology to develop the Nexon EV and the Altroz EV. A Tata HBX EV might just happen.

5. Trendy Spilt-type headlamps

   

   We all know, that split headlamp or headlamps positioned on the bumper is the norm of 2020 now. And the HBX gets one. Externally, the Tata HBX will feature spilt headlamps giving it an aggressive look. It also gets a huge bumper which along with the headlamps gives HBX more of an SUV look.

6. Semi-Digital Instrument Cluster

   

   Expected to be similar to Tata Altroz, HBX will get a semi-digital instrument cluster. As is visible in the image the speedometer is analogue while the rest of the data will be showcased in a digital manner.

   The HBX will also get a touchscreen infotainment system which will be mounted on top of the dashboard. it will be a 7-inch screen and will support AppleCarplay and Andriod Auto.

7. Harman Kardon Music System

   

   Tata cars are famous for feature exquisite Harmon Kardon music systems and the Tata HBX gets one. Given the segment, the most probable configuration will be a four-speakers with two or four tweeters making it a 6 speaker or 8 speaker system. This is not confirmed.

8. First-in-segment Cruise Control

   

   The HBX will have a cruise control system making long distant and highway drives less taxing on the mind and body. Cruise control automatically controls the speed of the car. This will be a first-in-class feature for this segment.

The Tata HBX (H2X) was unveiled a few months back at the February-held 2020 Auto Expo and now Tata has confirmed that the micro SUV will launch by end-2020 or early 2021 (March 2021 maybe). As per Pratap Bose, Vice President, Global Design at Tata Motors the HBX SUV is 95% production-ready. It was earlier supposed to launch in April/May 2020 but, got delayed due to the COVID19 pandemic that has spread across the nation.
