5 Genesis Cars We Would Love To See In India

Hyundai has been considering launching its luxury brand Genesis in India for quite some time. In February, leaked photos of a Genesis car being tested on Indian streets took the internet by storm. Now with S S Kim, the MD and CEO for Hyundai saying that the company has been running feasibility studies in India, we have official confirmation of their intent. Here are the 5 Genesis cars we would love to see in India:

  1. Genesis G80

Hyundai was seen testing out this midsize luxury sedan in Mumbai in February this year. The Genesis 80 is built to perform. We are excited about its 8-speed automatic transition, its all-wheel-drive feature and intelligent drive mode.

If released in India, the car will compete against the Mercedes E-class and the BMW 5-Series. However, going by the brand’s global pricing policy, Genesis will price the car much lower than its competitors. We are sure this midsize luxury Sedan with its 60s inspired retro look will be a favourite in India.

  2. GV 70 SUV

The GV 70 2022 comes with the performance of a sports sedan and the looks of an SUV.  The SUV will come with a 2.5L Turbocharged 4 Cylinder engine in the USA and will allow up to 300 hp. Considering the growing popularity of SUVs in the country, we expect Genesis to launch its range in India with the GV 70.

Hyundai displayed the Genesis GV 80 at its headquarters earlier this year. However, Hyundai later clarified that the company had no immediate plans of launching its first-ever SUV in India.

In the US, the GV 70 is currently available with two turbo petrol engine options, a 2.5-litre and 3.5-litre, and a 2.2-litre diesel engine option. The petrol engines generate 296bhp and  370bhp respectively while the diesel engine produces 204bhp. The SUV also comes with an 8-speed auto transmission.

GV 80 and GV 70 are both likely to become the first Genesis cars sold in India. If launched here the car will rival the likes of BMW X5 and the Mercedes Benz GLE- Class.

  4. The Genesis G90

The Genesis G90 is a true showstopper in every sense of the word. With its diamond-inspired Genesis Crest Grille and sleek yet athletic design, it is sure to turn heads wherever it goes. Hyundai originally launched its full-size luxury sedan as the Genesis EQ900 back in 2015 in South Korea as a successor of the Hyundai Equus. The fact that this car has been around this long is testimony to the car’s popularity both in South Korea and the US. We would like to see how the Indian market reacts to it.

  5. Genesis G70

Originally conceptualised by the same designer as the Kia Stinger, Genesis’s Executive Sedan, G70 is getting a new look for 2022. The 2022 G70 will have the same grille feature that distinguished its predecessor and the same lean structure. However, Genesis has altered the front end and the rear design to make the car look even more stunning. In the US the 2022 G70 is open for reservations and we can’t wait for Hyundai to open up the option in India.

These are the five cars we are looking forward to from the Korean luxury brand. With the various hints coming from Hyundai, we may expect the Genesis to hit Indian roads soon.
