Best Selling Cars Which Were Eventually Discontinued | Fateful Recall!

As the industry witnesses new launches & even resurrections of old iconic cars, we are losing some best-selling cars. There are cars which have been among the best-performing assets for the manufacturers but still were discontinued. They can still be seen running on the road and admired by enthusiasts. Let’s look at some of the similar best selling cars which were eventually discontinued:

• Tata Safari Storme
  

  

Starting with the candidate, we miss the previous generation Tata Safari Storme most. Its discontinuation was the most unfortunate event we had to go through as the new Safari might be more comfortable, tech loaded and efficient. Still, nothing could match the original Safari’s capabilities & road presence.

This SUV was first launched in 1998 and became a benchmark making a vast legacy for the Safari. The demand might have dropped a little in the last few years due to the lack of features, but it is still the best old-schooler SUV you can get. It came with a 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel engine with RWD and optional 4×4. It was one of Tata’s best selling SUVs with exceptional road presence and a strong built along with offroad capabilities.

• Honda Civic
  

  

Next on our list we have one of the most loved sedans in India, the Honda Civic. The Civic brand name made its first debut in 2006 in India and was very popular among the people at that time. It was the project car they modified to great extents for many enthusiasts. Later Honda relaunched it in 2019, but that did not go well.

The Civic & CR-V were manufactured at Honda’s facility in Greater Noida, and Honda pulled the plug on both the cars. It had two engine options; a 1.8litre i-VTEC petrol engine & a 1.6litre i-DTEC diesel engine. It was powerful and fuel-efficient, with the diesel engine beating 20kmpl. It was discontinued due to the low sales because of the premium price range from ₹17.39 to 22.34 lakhs and the dying D-segment sedans category.

• Maruti Suzuki Gypsy
  

  

This was one of the initial offroaders in India. It was an immensely popular army car, and even civilian adventure enthusiasts loved this capable car. We have mostly seen this car being used by the Police or Army as their jeeps. We can still see this car being used by the forces and even have a ride while going for any wildlife Safaris in the respective national parks.

Although it came with only basic features and even the second generation missed out on airbags, it had excellent modification potential. We can see heavily modified Gypsys during any offroading rallies & events. Its 34-year long run came to an end in 2019.

• Maruti Suzuki Alto K10
  

  

This little hatchback has been the first car of many families along with its siblings, such as Alto & the original Maruti 800. Along with the time, the Alto was upgraded in terms of features and got slightly more class than the older versions. But as soon as the S-Presso was launched, the sales numbers for Alto started to decline.

The discontinuation of Alto K10 was a little disheartening because it was a fine entry-level hatchback. It was launched in two generations in 2010 & 2014, respectively, and can still be spotted on the road. But to make way for the newer S-Presso, it had to be discontinued.

• Maruti Suzuki Omni
  

  

Another classic car from Maruti Suzuki, and we all can relate to this van. It might have been the van taking you to school & back or the little food van with the snacks going to societies & colonies. It was primarily used for commercial purposes and to carry people around.

It did not have great features but was very spacious and fuel-efficient. It was not very safe but among the best selling cars for the manufacturer. We can still see it running on the roads and remember the memories.
