Upcoming Cars At The Auto Expo 2023 | The Complete List Part 1

Auto Expo 2023 is now days away. Happening after a gap of three years, the event will raise the bar this time. With several carmakers waiting to showcase their beloved cars, here’s everything you will witness at the Auto Expo from each carmaker.

Boasting a huge pavilion this time as well, Maruti Suzuki will showcase more than 16 vehicles, including technical demonstrations, concepts and much more. Here’s what Maruti has in store for you.

  1. Maruti YY8 Concept E-SUV

    Maruti Suzuki YY8 Concept

    Maruti’s showstopper for the expo will be the YY8 E-SUV. A testament to what Maruti has up its sleeve in the EV game, all eyes will be on the YY8. Ready to be unveiled on January 11, this concept will be synonymous with Maruti’s EV SUV, which will be offered for sale by 2025. As large as the Creta in size, the YY8 will offer an estimated range of 500 Kms. Underpinned by the 27PL born-electric skateboard architecture. Co-developed with Toyota, the YY8 Electric SUV concept will be a global product manufactured at the carmaker’s Gujarat plant.

  2. Five-door Jimny

    Internally codenamed as the YWD, India will finally witness the production version of the 5-Door Jimny. Expected to ride on a 300mm longer wheelbase than the current gen Jimny, the 2023 Maruti Jimny will also be lengthier. In terms of juice, the SUV will be powered by a 1.5 litre K15 C Dual Jet Petrol engine returning 103 BHP/137NM with Mild-Hybrid tech onboard mated to either a 6-speed torque converter auto or a classic 5-speed manual.

  3. Baleno-based coupe SUV

    Toyota/Maruti YTB expected design, credits – GaadiWaadi

    Codenamed YTB, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno Cross SUV coupe could be the next big thing at the Auto Expo 2023. Spied testing a few times now; the Baleno Cross could even launch as early as the first quarter of 2023. The new cross will be based on the HEARTECT platform, underpinning the classic Baleno. Likely to be powered by a 1.0-litre Booster Jet petrol engine with both a CVT auto and manual on offer, the SUV-Coupe could also offer the 1.2 litre/1.5-litre Dual Jet engine with Mild Hybrid tech as well. The YTB could be the first launch for the carmaker in 2023 and can go on sale by March or April this year.

MG Motors is all set to surprise everyone at the Expo with as many as six showcases, including the new MG5, MG4 and AIR City EVs, along with the updated Hector and Hector Plus.

  1. MG City EV Concept

    The showstopper for MG’s arena at the Expo will be the Air City EV which will feature in a close-to-production avatar. The compact two-door EV will be offered as a premium commuter based on the popular Wuling Air EV sold in Indonesia. Measuring a mere 2.9 metres in length, it will be one of the smallest EVs in India. With mind-blowing features like twin 10.25-inch screens and connected car tech, the two-door EV is likely to be equipped with a 20 to 25 kWh battery pack that can offer a good range of 200 to 250 km.

  2. MG4 Electric Hatchback

    The MG4 electric hatchback will also make its way to the Expo 2023. Recently scoring full five starts at the Euro NCAP safety tests, the MG4 Electric comes in comfort, luxury and standard variants. Topped with MG Pilot and top-notch safety features such as lane keep assist, intelligent high beam assist, driver attention alert, adaptive cruise control and active emergency braking, the MG4 electric hatchback will be a force to reckon with if launched in India.

  3. Hector and Hector Plus Facelifts

    The Auto Expo 2023 will also witness MG Motors revealing the prices for the Hector and hector Plus facelifts. With several cosmetic changes, including a new grille, bumpers, tail lamps, and much more, the Hector and Hector Plus facelifts will be the talk of the town. Bringing in a plethora of changes on the inside, the facelifts will offer a completely new dashboard design along with 14-inch touchscreens and ADAS tech. Powertrain-wise, however, no change is expected for both SUVs.

  4. MG5 estate and MG6 sedan

    Purely showcased, the MG5 and MG6 will also impress the public at the MG stall. While the MG5 is a Carens/Ertiga-sized electric estate topped with a 61kWh battery pack, the MG6 is an Octavia-sized sedan with a 169 PS, 1.5-litre turbo-petrol units mated to a 7-speed DCT gearbox.

Hyundai Motors

Recently closing year 2022 with highest-ever sales since inception, at the core of Hyundai’s arena at the Expo will be technological advancements and autonomous technology.

  1. Ioniq 5 launch

    The much-awaited Ioniq 5 E-SUV will see its launch at the Auto Expo 2023. The SUV will be the showstopper for Hyundai and will be boasted as a locally assembled SUV that will be priced cheaper than its sister, the Kia EV6. The Electric SUV will get a permanent magnet synchronous motor mated with a 72.6kWh battery and will offer an output of 217PS/350Nm. The Ioniq 5 range is claimed to be 631 Km that is absolutely superb.

    Taking the EV game further, Hyundai will also showcase its recently unveiled Ioniq 6 EV sedan. Dubbed as Hyundai’s contender to take on the Tesla Model 3, both the Ioniq 5 and 6 share Hyundai’s E-GMP skateboard platform that offers a highly spacious cabin.

  3. Nexo FCEV

    Up on the showcase will also be the Nexo fuel-cell electric vehicle (FCEV) SUV at the event. This will be the third time after 2018 and 2020 that Hyundai will be showcasing the FCEV model in India. Globally positioned as a mid-size SUV, the Nexo derives power from a fuel cell stack, making it a hydrogen-powered vehicle. Powered by a front-wheel electric motor, the vehicle makes 161PS with 395NM. Offering a range of 666km in the WLTP cycle, the Nexo will be a sight to watch.

  4. Hyundai Ai3 Concept

    Unconfirmed as of yet, chances are that Hyundai might show another concept that will be a trailer to the compact SUV that can go on sale by the latter half of 2023. Codenamed the Hyundai Ai3, the compact SUV will lock horns with the popular Tata Punch and the Citroën C3, sitting below the Venue in Hyundai’s inventory.
