Bajaj has formally entered the much anticipated electric scooter market with its new launch the Bajaj Chetak.
The market for electric scooters, which is a market currently in its research and innovation stage is currently dominated by another popular name, the Ather 450, so it makes a lot of sense to compare the specs of the two electric scooters.

Both the electric scooters have an electric motor. The Bajaj Chetak comes with an electric motor that produces 4.08 kW of power whereas the Ather 450 gives peak power of 5.4 kW.
The max torque for the Ather 450 stands at 20.5 Nm while the Chetak churns a max torque of 16 Nm.
The Ather 450 claims a 0 to 40 kmph in 3.9 seconds, whereas Bajaj hasn’t disclosed the same for its Bajaj Chetak yet.

Both the electric scooters can be charged through a regular 5 amp socket.
The Bajaj Chetak comes with an inbuilt charger that takes around 5 hours to charge it up to the brim, whereas an hour of charging can give you a 25 per cent charge. Although, there’s no fast charging mechanism available yet for the Chetak.

On the other hand, Ather’s electric scooter comes in with a fast charging technology which can make use of DC fast charging, making it charge itself at a rate of 1 km per minute. A full charge through a regular socket can take around 4 hours for the Ather.

The Ather 450 has a futuristic and fluidic design, while the Bajaj Chetak is betting on the conventional retro look. Both the scooters have a reverse mode, Bluetooth connectivity and a battery with an IP67 rating, making it dust and water-resistant.

The range is for an electric scooter what mileage is for a petrol run scooter.
The Chetak Electric which provides two drive modes, namely Eco and Sport which churn out a mileage of 95 kilometres and 85 kilometres respectively.

Whereas, the Ather 450 electric scooter by the Bengaluru based startup, gives you three riding modes, i.e. Eco, Ride and Sport, sucking out a mileage of 75 kilometres, 65 kilometres and 55 kilometres from its electric motor.
Bajaj Chetak Electric vs Ather 450 | The Price
The Ather 450 is being retailed by Ather in Bengaluru and Chennai for 1.13 lakhs and 1.22 (on-road price)lakhs. The scooters are available in these cities currently.
On the other hand, the Bajaj is retailing its Chetak somewhere between 1.0 lakhs and 1.15 lakhs (ex-showroom price) in Bengaluru and Pune, with deliveries set to begin by February.
The EMI for the Ather starts at ₹ 3,663 whereas for the Chetak it may go up to ₹ 3,228.
