The latest news from India’s largest automaker is that the most popular premium hatch in the country is all set to make a comeback in the Indian market in a brand new avatar. While Tata has launched the new Punch, Maruti has planned a great competitor for the same. Seems like micro SUV has the potential to become the new trend in the Indian market which is why MSIL has decided to shift Baleno from the hatch segment.
If you have been eyeing to buy either Baleno or Glanza, we would suggest waiting because Maruti is planning on a new Punch rival which will be based on the Baleno itself. This Maruti Baleno based subcompact SUV will be placed between the S-Presso and the Brezza.

The launch timeline is not confirmed yet but we have also got hints regarding the upcoming subcompact SUV from the dealerships too. The new upcoming car will be based on the same HEARTECT platform that’s said to be built with ultra and advanced high tensile steel. It is likely to share the engine with the Baleno and the Swift.
Along with the Baleno facelift, we will also get the much-awaited Jimny at the start of the new year. The brand showcased the 3-door model at the Auto Expo but they are expected to launch the 5-door version in the Indian market. The brand thinks that bringing in 3 door version to India won’t be a cost-friendly option.
What do you think about the upcoming Baleno and Jimny? Will the off-roader be able to take over the Thar? Will Maruti be able to develop a ‘safe’ vehicle to rival the Punch? Do let us know in the comments section below!
