This auto industry in India has suffered another blow due to this pandemic. The plants have paused production, the dealerships are closed and therefore the stock remains unsold. Though many brands have tried the online version of the showroom where the customer can experience and buy their favourite car online. This too has not shown any improvement in the car sale. For obvious reasons, people are trying to fulfil the basic requirements now and are postponing or cancelling their plans to buy a new car.

The car sale numbers are all-time low in March 2020. You can blame the lockdown for this for sure. Major auto brands like Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Honda, Mahindra etc have reported a fall in the stats. For instance, Maruti Suzuki reported a sale drop of 47% this month. The reasons are obvious though! The production is suspended and so is the sale. Mahindra & Mahindra also reported a major sale drop. Tata Motors has also experienced a dip in the sale. The passenger vehicle sale dipped by 68% and the commercial vehicle sale dipped by 87%!

We suppose the sale might be back to normal once the lockdown is over. We have multiple reasons for that. Once the lockdown is lifted, the people who were saving for the BS6 norms to kick in will surely buy their new car. Yes, the BS6 norms are already live and the dealers have the vehicles ready to be delivered. Another reason that may push the vehicle sale is the social distancing principle that’s really common nowadays. All the people will prefer private vehicles over public transport after the lockdown. Many buyers who would have booked their cars or even planned to books a car during Navratri will surely go ahead after the lockdown.

Though the lockdown has given our industry a blow the car sale will surely boost once this is over. Many automakers are planning new models in the coming months. There is a downfall in the current situation but this will be over really soon!
