2020 – the roller coaster year (as you may call it), taught us many things and made us learn to live with something which we were obviously not prepared for. While things began to normalise after India began to unlock, the automotive industry also saw a good rise in the sale numbers in recent months. In today’s featured, we are going to have a look at the top 10 selling car brands in the month of December 2020. Here are the detailed car sales for December 2020.
-
Maruti Suzuki (1,40,754 units)
As always, Maruti Suzuki continues to be at the top with a sale of over 1Lakh cars in the previous month. To be precise, MSIL sold 1,40,754 units in the month of December 2020. If we compare this to the brand’s sale in November 2020, MSIL saw an M-o-M growth of 3.67% which is quite good considering the pandemic is still on. Let’s have a look at other brands’ sales.
-
Hyundai Motor India Limited (47,400 units)
Following Maruti in the car sales in December 2020, is Hyundai. If we have a look at the sale number, it is almost one-third of what MSIL sold last month but all of us know that no one sells as MSIL does. 47,400 is a really great number. Hyundai recently brought in the new i20 which has helped the brand to push its sales in the last month. However, this is 2.87% lesser than what they sold in November 2020.
-
Tata Motors (23,546 units)
The Indian brand which is absolutely on a roll! Be it Tiago or Altroz, both of them are proving to be a great competitor to others because of the safety ratings they have received from the Global NCAP! For the month of December 2020, Tata ended up selling 23,546 units reporting an M-o-M growth of 8.80% which is definitely a great figure!
-
Mahindra & Mahindra (16,182 units)
Continuing the car sales December 2020’s list, we have Mahindra at the 4th place with a sale of 16,182 units in the last month. While Thar is doing great in the market, we expect them to launch the new XUV500 and the Scorpio here really soon. These two will definitely help push the sales manifolds.

-
Kia Motors India (11,818)
We think Sonet has now lost its charm considering the increasing competition from the other carmakers. While Nissan has brought in the Magnite, Kia Motors seems to have taken the resultant bump in the sales. This month Kia Motors sold 11,818 units which means that there was a whopping 43.48% M-o-M drop in sales! This is really disappointing and we hope Kia comes up with something new really soon to get back their share in the market.
-
Renault India (9,800 units)
While the MPV game was already hot, Renault entered the game with the Triber. The cheapest MPV in India which still continues to sell well in the market. For the month of December 2020, Renault closed at 9,800 units which is a 3.74% drop from the last month. The drop is not much and we think that Renault will easily be able to cope up with this.
-
Honda Cars India (8,638 units)
Although Honda has discontinued the CRV and the Civic due to the closure of their Noida manufacturing facility, they ended up selling 8,638 units. The 2020 Honda City continues to be the flagbearer in terms of sales. Car sales December 2020 ended up for Honda with a 13.53% M-o-M drop.
-
Toyota Kirloskar Motor (7,487 Units)
It’s almost here! Toyota is about to launch the Fortuner. Talking about what’s gone, Toyota ended up selling 7,487 units for the car sales in December 2020. This means that there was an almost 12% drop than what they sold in November. Is technology sharing really working out? What do you think? Let us know!

Morris Garages India (4,010 units)
The one who has introduced India to the ADAS! MG Gloster has also got a great response from the Indian audience whereas Hector and Hector Plus continue to sell in great amounts in the market. Considering the amount of the overall sales, this Chinese brand ended up selling 4,010 units in December 2020 which amounts to a 3.68% M-o-M drop.
-
Volkswagen India (2,401 units)
We are still trying to figure out what worked for VW this month! You would say that 2,401 units are too less to say that they have grown but if you have a look at their past sales, they have reported a 70.04% M-o-M increase this time! This is by far the best growth any brand has shown in the car sales in December 2020. What, according to you has led the German brand to achieve this? Let us know in the comments section below.
