Commercial Vehicle Sales – June 2022

The commercial vehicle sales for the financial year 2022 were just 716,000 units! Lowest since 2012! COVID-19, transition to BS-VI emission standards, and revised axle load norms were the major contributing reasons. The sales volume declined for consecutive two years! However, June 2022 has a different story to share.

The total commercial vehicle sales jumped up to 67,696 units in June 2022 as compared to 35810 units sold in June 2021. It increased by approximately 89%. Even 2- wheelers showed an increase of 20%, 3-wheelers 212%, and passenger vehicle sales had an increment of 40%.

The commercial vehicle segment for the first time showed a healthy growth by 4% as compared to the pre-covid month i.e June 2019.

There was a segment-wise increase in the sales figures for CVs. All of the following: light commercial vehicles, medium commercial vehicles, and heavy commercial vehicles, reported positive growth rates.

#1. LCV sales increased by 85.69%

#2. MCV sales increased by 124.24%

#3. HCV sales increased by 102.06%

“Other commercial vehicles” also contributed 3258 unit sales. They witnessed a 36.32% increase in their sales figures when compared to June 2021

Tata Motor dominates

Tata Motors sold 27,829 units in June 2022. While in June 2021 it was just 14,013 units. Its market share also increased from 39.13% to 41.11% YOY. This makes Tata motors a leader and number one position holder in the list of CV sales in India.

Mahindra & Mahindra, Ashok Leyland were the followers of Tata Motors, occupying the second and third position respectively in commercial vehicle sales in India.

VE commercial vehicles Ltd, Maruti Suzuki, Daimler, and Force are the other CV brands contributing to the upward sales in India.
