10 Common problems reported on the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz

The Indian automobile market has got a lot of options no matter which segment you consider buying. Also, with increased options and choice comes great confusion. A particular car in the market might give you better mileage but another one might offer you safety or convenience features. If you are planning to buy a newly launched car, it’s okay to go with the initial impressions. But, if you are planning to buy a car which has already established a customer base in the market, you should definitely consider the experience of the people who already own it! In this article, we take you through common Maruti Suzuki Ciaz problems. This is a really popular sedan and definitely a good one too but some owners have reported these commonly occurring problems:

  1. Suspension Issues

Starting off with the most common issue that many users have reported. Ciaz is a sedan and is meant to deliver luxury inside the cabin! But considering the condition of Indian roads, rides can be uncomfortable at times. Especially, in the case of Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, owners have reported that the ride is comfortable as long as the road is flat but tends to pitch and bounce on undulating highways and bumpy roads. We agree sedans are meant to be run on city roads but considering its India, bumpy rides are a part of our life!

  2. Electrical Issues

Another one among common Ciaz problems is the failure of electricals. We are not sure what is the exact issue with the wires but they tend to fail quite often. Many owners have faced and reported issues regarding the electrical components. We guess Maruti still needs to work on the electrical components and wiring.

  3. Rear Headroom

    Common Ciaz Problems

While most of you might find Ciaz cabin spacious and well built, people over 6ft struggle to fit in the rear seats. The headroom is a bit low on the rear seat which is not a common issue but still troubles some people who are 6ft and taller.

  4. No Engine Cover

    Maruti Suzuki Ciaz

Well, this is a basic feature that you would get in many entry-level cars too. Maruti Ciaz is considered to be among the premium Maruti cars (as it is sold through NEXA) and still lacks such a basic thing! This definitely troubles the owners who compare their beloved car with competitors like Honda City and eventually get sad because their car lacks such a basic thing! We guess Maruti Suzuki is concerned about cost-cutting over anything.

  5. Gearshift Issues

No doubt Ciaz has got a really soft clutch and delivers seamless gearshifts during its initial life but the real problem starts when it enters the later stages of its life. Among common Ciaz problems, owners have also reported that they face gearshift issues. We are not saying that all the owners have faced this but yes, most of the users have reported that after 50-60k km, gearshifting becomes an issue where the first and the reverse gear are reported most commonly.

  6. Power Lags (Diesel Variant)

While Maruti has already discontinued the diesel lineup, this is for the readers who might prefer buying Ciaz diesel from the used car market. Many owners have reported that they feel major power lags if they drive it under 2000rpm. We agree that Maruti DDiS was indeed a great engine but still owners have faced power lags with Ciaz. This one is also one of the most common Ciaz problems.

  7. ORVMs Not Big Enough

    Common Ciaz Problems
    Ciaz ORVMs

One of the most important components of a car that ensure safe driving is the rearview mirror. Most of the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz users have reported that the ORVMs provided by Maruti Suzuki on the Ciaz is relatively small. Users say that the road visibility is good but not up to the mark. In short, Maruti could have placed better ORVMs in Ciaz. Also, people have face issues where the A-Pillar creates a partial blind spot.

  8. Power Steering Issues

    Common Ciaz Problems
    Power Steering Issues

Ciaz has got a really good power steering system. The steering is light, responsive and fun to use. Despite being in good books for long, many owners have now started complaining about Ciaz’s steering too. Many owners have experienced that the steering doesn’t return to the original position after they take a U-Turn. This can be dangerous at times as Ciaz is a sedan and can be really difficult to handle at times if the steering doesn’t return to the original position on its own.

  9. Issues with SmartPlay Infotainment

    Common Ciaz Problems
    SmartPlay Infotainment

Back in 2015, Maruti Suzuki delayed the deliveries of the top-end variant of the Ciaz due to some problems with the SmartPlay Infotainment system which was exclusively available on the top-end variant only. It’s 2020 and people still face issues with the infotainment. People have reported that the system becomes unresponsive at times and struggles a bit to get back to normal.

These were the common Ciaz problems which have been reported by the owners till now. Before you leave your thoughts in the comments section, we would like to inform you that the above-mentioned problems have been extracted from our workshop data and it is not necessary that a particular Ciaz owner may face all the problems mentioned above. Also, if you are a Ciaz owner and are facing some issue that is not mentioned above, feel free to contact GoMechanic for your car repairs!

    • Hi Prabhas,
We are glad to know that you have not faced any of the listed issues. Please note that the issues listed in the article have been sourced from the data collected at our workshops. Stay tuned!

      • I am having an issue but I can determine what it is. I am hearing a bouncing or knocking noise but I can’t determine what it is. Some help would be nice. I changed the bottom control arms, I changed the inner and outer tie rods I also changed the drop links. The suspension seems solid but once on bumpy road or when I initially move off I hear the clunky noise. I also checked all the mounts and they seem to be fine. Any advise?

        • Lubricate the caliper pin (front disc break, both left and right)with caliper grease. Ask you mechanic to check if their is any big ply, otherwise a perfect greasing will be enough to quiet the sound

  1. Utter nonsense. I have been driving a Ciaz diesel since 2016 and never faced any issue. Engine lag is there but then again it’s a 1.3L, so what did you expect. All the rest of issues listed are of generic nature and can affect any vehicle.

    • Hi Rajat,
We are glad to know that you have not faced any of the listed issues. Please note that the issues listed in the article have been sourced from the data collected at our workshops. Stay tuned!

    • Hi There
We are glad to know that your Ciaz is completely fine! Please note that the issues listed in the article have been sourced from the data collected at our workshops. Stay tuned for more!

  2. My ciaz (petrol)has covered 91000kms ,4 years now.I don’t have any issues mentioned except some rattling of the inside panels. Headlights have to be improved.

  3. I am owning a ciaz petrol from 2018, so far I am not facing any such issues listed. But needless to agree on 2 things mentioned above , no engine cover which is available on basic variants, hatch back cars of other manufacturers which is lagging in ciaz, power lagging in 2nd gear which I can feel as I am also having ford eco sport which is much better but I don’t know weather I can compare ciaz with eco sport as the segment is completely different. But still maruti can concentrate on improving built quality for such premium segments

  4. I have ciaz petrol and never faced any such issues like headroom, side mirror size, engine cover is present in alpha variant… Data collected at your workshop doesn’t say it’s a manufacturing problem…it depends on person driving style very much…

What do you mean by electrical issues kindly elaborate… Never faced any such issues so far…

Regarding build quality compared to other vendors is a known fact.

  5. Ciaz Alpha Hybrid model has problem with its spare tyre which does not match with the regular tyres. This was noticed rearly by customers only when they had to face a puncture. It is a very shameful thing done by Maruti.

    • Hi Ashok,
I’m afraid, that has been done to cut some corners. But let me tell you, though the rim size is different the tyre size is also different and will fill the wheel well perfectly. Moreover, it will have no impact on the performance what so ever. PS. Only the aesthetics are compromised. Stay Pinned! 🙂

  6. I agree to reverse gear shift issue and the stearing not auto return after turn. I am witnessing both these prob in my car was

  7. I own ciaz delta petrol 2017 model I still find it extremely the best one, despite its power steering problem which was addressed by maruti Suzuki absolutely free of cost worth 7k supossedly promptly for which i am thankful to them and happy with my decision owning a ciaz …..most importantly this problem is common with other car manufacturers also, steering wheel not returning back to normal position is not manufacturing issue, it is due to either neglecting periodic wheel alignment correcting the caster angle as in my case or insufficient tyre pressure after rectifying all these my ciaz is performing as good as a new one

  8. So whats the conclusion, shall we buy ciaz or not. Because I’m planning to get ciaz S edition. Is it a good choice or shall I look for other optiona in sedan.

    • Hi Akshay,
Maruti Suzuki Ciaz is a good car from the brand, no doubt in that. But it comes with some set of flaws which are in no terms are a deal-breaker. Also, many of the problems listed have been rectified by Maruti Suzuki. Stay Pinned!

  9. Don’t know about others, fortunately I didn’t face such issues. At this cost what company offering that is unbeatable till date.

  10. I own Ciaz from 2018 March and i am not facing any of the listed issues. Moreover some of issues like Back seat headroom, ORVMs are generally personal nature issues.

One thing i don’t like about Ciaz that it create lots of road noise inside cabin.

I came here to find solution of it. Can u help me ?

    • Hi Niket,
Some things are prominent and are a part of the customer experience. Speaking about the road noise in Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, it is common. But still, you can reduce the road noise by a considerable amount by getting the sound dampeners for all the doors of the car. Hope this helps. Stay Pinned! 🙂

  11. My ciaz (petrol) is 5 yrs now covered 95000 kms. I get around 14km/ ltr in city and around 20 km/ ltr pon the highways. Some rattling is there and noise inside. I think tyres also make a difference.

  12. My ciaz is almost 3 weeks old and yesterday i noticed the centre console ac vents cracked it self. Very cheap quality Maruti is using in their cars.

Here is no option to attach an image, otherwise i must share it.

  13. such a lie,I have been using ciaz from 2015.And there is no issues like what is mentioned here. Its as if the owner has never been or seen a ciaz.Such a bullshit article to be frank.

    • Hi Shaheen,
It is delightful to know that you and your Maruti Suzuki Ciaz are having fun. Well, these pointers are the ones that arise when you don’t take good care of your car. Also, the information is from our customer database. Stay Pinned! 🙂

  14. I bought a 2021 Suzuki Ciaz. The only problem i noticed the driver and passenger door panels from inside, the most upper part, black piece, gets wavy after a while from sun and heat. did anyone have that problem ?

  15. I have a Ciaz petrol since 2017. One problem which I have been facing is the rattling noise when I drive on rough roads near the front passenger seat.

Nexa or Maruti not able to solve this issue.

    • I had this issue. Recommend you to take all seats out – in front of your eyes – and then bolt them back in place after cleaning the grooves.
      Works like a charm.
      Hope it helps.

  16. Such a misleading article

I own CIAZ Alpha since 2017, driven it 98000 KM till date. Not a single issue I faced even after driving it on every possible terrain and in worst possible conditions. Top notch performance by my CIAZ every time.

You want customers for GoMechanic? Why don’t beg for it clearly? Do not defame such a good vehicle by MSIL

  17. I’ve my ciaz from 2017, never faced any such problems highlighted by you. It’s just an attempt to downgrade the brand which has been so successful on the Indian roads. Every car faces wear and tear with the passage of time. No problem of gear shift in these 4 years , excellent driving comfort and average especially in long drives..

  18. i bought the ciaz in 2017 and facing almost all of those above mentioned factors. mine is 1.4l petrol still power lags, body rolls a lot even on slightly uneven roads, A-pillar has a partial blind spot at times, orvm is too small which isn’t much helpful while taking a left or right turns, reverse gear shifting is a problem have to try it for twice or thrice to put it, headlights are way too dull in the night times and you cant even spot a speedbreaker coming if the roads lights are also dull, body is way too thin and bumpers are just a fiber sheet which is not even hard enough to restrain a bicycle on the road instead bumpers will bend inwards like a soft sheet, actually bumpers are meant to prevent the vehicle when incase of accident but with these ciaz bumpers people inside can go straight to heaven. body paint can become too dull within 4 to 5 years and it can absorb the bird poops marks deep inside the paints and will make sure its a permanent mark on ur car which i havent seen in ford which i used before and not in any other brand cars and suzuki must be awarded for this for providing such a so called premium pain on the ciaz car. i just fell for this car by its look and mileage at the time of buying but after facing all these issues i feel like i own a crap, need to change this car sooner. one more thing ciaz steering wont come back to its original position in u-turns like ford cars, saying since i know how ford fiesta used to come back to its original position at u-turns, i’ve stunned by the way fiesta steering works back to its original position at times of making u-tunrs. All of you guys are drowned by its looks and mileage but what i mentioned above is all true and undeniable facts.

    • Dear Anand, thanks for your comments. Recently I have done a lot of brainstorming for a decision making to buy a new car in mid 2022. The experience with the most sought after German cars is also not so good. Look at the front grill design in VW Vitrus at its chin. What safety it offers apart from giving it an ugly look is a question. Even their so called cost cutting attitude is also easily evident in the material including their boasted body. My age old mechanic can easily differentiate the poor quality as compared to their earlier makes. The head room in both Virtus and Slavia is so less while sitting in the front seats, it feels like someone has compelled us to sit with our shoulders pressed not to move up. The rear seats ate ao low sitting. On the contrary Ciaz has wonderful higher sitting platform on the rear with mote headroom. The AC performance including so called Ventilated seats is poor in modern day German cars. It seems they have bought most reviewers in the electronic media to post only positive comments about their cars!!

  19. Owner of the Ciaz Hybrid past 3 years. No problems whatsoever. Do long drives of 500km every fortnight. So the problems mentioned are not commonly encountered. Maybe occasionally. My views as a satisfied Ciaz owner.

  20. That’s astonishing! I have done 110000 kms, the SA asked me to change the timing belt. How many times have you changed and the frequency at which it has to be changed?

  21. You are right. Article is not factual. Ciaz is a brilliant car with good riding comfort due to the longer wheel base.

    • Hi Viswaskumar!
No doubt Ciaz is a very good car that provides ride comfort, this article has been drafted looking at our database. These are the ‘most common problems’ that Ciaz owners have reported to GoMechanic for repairs. Nothing bad about the car as a whole though!
      Cheers!

  22. Hi my name is girish I my frm visakhapatnam since March 2019 I’m using maruthi Suzuki ciaz smarthybrid…six months its runned very smooth without any problem.then first complaint was steering horn connected coil, then after few months smart music player it’s not working properly which given by company..then after few months left hand side suspension sound…very loudly till now the complaint was not rectified….my car was in warranty only please give me a suggestion.thank you…my number – 9642574783…

  23. One of the useless and fraud service provider – gomachanic company- never visit otherwise u will face 1000s of other problems with ur car instead of getting repair the existing issues u r facing.. whatever i had faced i m sharing.

  24. Ciaz is an excellent car and i have none of the issues mentioned in the article I have a Alpha Automatic 2018. The suzuki connect app has stopped working since last 38 days ( subscription is valid till 2025) . The NEXA dealer and their managers have sent mails to all concerned at Maruti , a complaint has been registered at customer care, but there is a eerie silence on the next step.

  25. I don’t recommend gomechanic! In jaipur their services worst ever. U almost spent 50k at Gomechanic but not satisfied their work . my rating would be 2.5 out of 5

  26. Im using ciaz from 2016….ive had issies sith gear shifting…especially the reverse from the first service..then other major issue which ive faced is the headlight issues…it needs to be more powerful….not visible at all

  27. My car is about cover 40000 km deasel and my car is under warranty period when I feel engine knoking sound taken my car in popular Sai service center kerala they replace injector still that issue remain ..they said to me actually they don’t know what is the problem they checked my car about 1 month and still my car is in service center ..I think maruthi service is cheating costomers ..next time I never buy any maruthi Suzuki cars..

  28. Hi.
Thanks for the details in this article. However, I would like to point out the following
    1. The issues that you reported here are generic to any car with said features available. They are not a unique set of problems. The problem with ciaz is, it is a car that let’s people travel in comfort with a complete trade off on performance. I bought this car for its comfort quotient only and till date though i feel it is unexciting to drive, I knew it on day one and don’t complain about what “could have been”.
    2. Maruti Svc is way better in accepting faults and trying to find a solution for these basic issues. I don’t imagine they can be as forthcoming with tech laden car line ups like grand vitara round the corner. But your article doesn’t mention this fact.
    3. Also it would have helped, since you are a “mechanic”, if you could have mentioned approx costs to fix such issues. Definitely as an owner I am concerned with cost of spares and if your quotes are generally better than Svc, I wouldn’t mind trying your services.
    4. U turn issue is a big problem, agreed! But after 6+ years hands “automatically” correct the steering, haha.
    5. Body roll is more at slower speeds. If you increase speed it goes away. Suspension is soft! What else do you expect!!!

Personal note: I find the most common issue with a ciaz owner is, he/she gets it for the price to comforts factor and then expects it to handle like a Vento or rapid. No 1 car will suit all needs. I have a fast bike. I take her to 170kmph and when I’m in the ciaz I know what I have and don’t have. I enjoy the ciaz as it is supposed to be enjoyed – with a chilled beer! Just kidding lol

  29. I have been using Ciaz Petrol for the last 5 years and I have not faced any issues. Though I use it only on Citi Roads majority of my trips have been to Tirupati hills and Nellore. I drive about 15,000 kms a year.

  30. Hi everyone,

Recently my ciaz(petrol) got stuck in water which was on road formed like a small pond. It got stuck and car dint get start. I had to push the car through the water and after few attempts it got started. How ever now the engine is making some noise like a motor starting and the average is also dropped.

I had put my car for servicing but the showroom said there some work with engine and they will have to open the engine to identify what the actual issue is and might cost a alot. Insurance is expired too. Car was stuck in water for about 3 mins.

Been 3 year since purchased. Single owner.

Please suggest what should be dine.

    • Hi there
if they are suggesting the engine should e dismantled to identify the issue and you don’t want to go ahead with the same, I would advise selling your car off. As these internal engine issues can also lead to the engine getting ceased, after which your car will be nothing ut a piece of metal and you won’t get any price in the market for the same

  31. I have been using ciaz diesel for the last 8year ….. Drove 215000….. Until 7th year of its life ciaz never troubled me….. Except for minor issues …… None of the above listed problems happened to me…… Looking forward for maruti to start manufacturing ciaz diesels.

  32. I own and drive a Maruti CIAZ XZI+ (top end Petrol model ) since November, 2015 and never faced any problems and any issues till date, excellent and best car I ever owned till date.

  33. I own and drive a Maruti CIAZ ZXI+ ( top end Petrol model ) since November, 2015 and never faced any problems and never faced any issues till date. I am very happy with this car and it’s performance. This is a excellent car, it gives the best average in its segment class and best car I have ever owned till date.

  34. I am ciaz petrol owner and in 2 year I didn’t get any issue and almost 70000 car drive..
Best car in that cost and in compare with honda city best car…
    Always love maruti suzuki…

  35. I am using the Ciaz Zxi Petrol from first batch of car launch in 2014.
Its almost 8 years now but still i didnt face any major issue.
This article is really misleading and misguiding geniune potential buyers of the car.

    • Hi Sandeep, mechanical issues are usually in a very small percentage of the total cars produced. It may happen that your batch had no issues, but the next one might have some.

  36. Hi
Im a ciaz owner and personally I would say that it has among the best ride quality set ups in its segments plus its well planted on the highway too. Suspension issues do occur in the long term and its better to replace them.

  37. I have my ciaz running 30,000 km my problem is that engine stalling while i’m driving no dtc found when i got my ciaz checked on a delearship. Any idea what is problem with my car? Thanks.

    • Hi, to better understand the issue, we will suggest you take your car to your nearest GoMechanic Workshop, where our dedicated team of professionals will help you resolve all your car issues.

    • Hi to better understand the issue we will suggest you to take your car to your nearest GoMechanic Workshop, where our dedicated team of professionals will help you resolve all your car issues.

  38. My ciaz zdi+ is 8 yrs old . And I have driven 2.5 laks already.
I faced suspension problem once and I changed everything.
I faced gear shift problem on every 40k kms. The synchronising ring of 1st and 2nd gear has a fault from company. But this car is not meant for indian roads.

  39. Have been using Ciaz Petrol AT- Alpha, 2018 facelift version, for almost 23k kms. Didn’t face any major issue, except for some seat noise and dashboard rattle on bad/undulated roads. It’s very easy & comfortable to drive. Don’t feel it’s size while driving, as it’s very easy to maneuver. getting 11-12 km/l in bumper to bumper traffic & ~18 km/l on highways
