Hyundai’s popular premium hatchback i20 is all set to get a revamp session soon. But till then, you’ll have to wait to buy a diesel variant. The current diesel variant has been discontinued by the company. Elite i20’s petrol variant was upgraded to BS6 in January 2020.
- The BS4 diesel unit was a 1.4-litre engine. It used to produce 88.76hp of power and 220Nm of torque.
- The upgraded BS6 1.2-litre petrol engine of Hyundai Elite i20 churns out 81.8hp of power and a peak torque of 114Nm.
- The upcoming new-gen Elite i20 will be getting a 1.5-litre diesel engine with a capacity to produce 98.63hp of power and 235Nm of peak torque.
- It will also have two petrol options: 1.0-litre turbo and the current 1.5-litre unit.
- In the euro-spec 3rd-gen Hyundai i20, the turbo petrol unit is being offered in two states of tunes: 98.6hp and 118.3hp. It is also equipped with a 48V mild-hybrid system that cannot be expected to come to our shores.
- For the transmission options, you can expect the turbo unit to get a 7-speed DCT option. Manual options as standard will also be present.
The BS6 petrol Hyundai Elite i20 is priced between ₹5,59,000 to ₹9,20,000(ex-showroom). It rivals the BS6-compliant models such as Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Toyota Glanza, Tata Altroz and Volkswagen Polo.
