Czech carmaker and Audi subsidiary Skoda is planning an entry into the Sri Lankan car market. Skoda is evaluating importing it’s various Made in India car models including the Skoda Vision IN to Sri Lanka. The Vision IN and the 2020 Rapid will be manufactured at Skoda’s Chakan plant. These two car models are produced under Skoda’s heavily localised MQB-A0-IN platform.
- Skoda will be commencing operations in May 2020 and will be offering the Fabia, the Superb, the Karoq Sub-Compact SUV and the Full-Size Kodiaq SUV to the Sri Lankan car market. The best selling Skoda Octavia will be put on offer later.
- Customer in Sri Lanka can order the first vehicles from the beginning of March 2020, and the first deliveries will be made when the new showroom opens in May 2020.
- Skoda is collaborating with a Sri Lankan entity; IWS Automobiles for importing and trading functions who will be directly procuring these car models from the Czech Republic.
- Commenting on this, Skoda Auto CEO Bernhard Maier said, “Further internationalising our brand and conquering new markets are central areas of action laid out in the Skoda Strategy 2025. By re-entering the Sri Lankan market, we are taking the next step in raising Skoda’s position worldwide.”
