Electric vehicles are the new innovation. And many carmakers in India have already entered or are willing to enter the EV space. One such carmaker is the Mahindra and Mahindra. Recently after years of testing, Mahindra has finally unveiled its first electric car for the Indian Market. It is the Mahindra XUV400.
In the electric vehicle space in the Indian market, there are two most prominent names, Tata and MG. Let’s save Tata for later and check whether the offering from Mahindra will be able to surpass the MG ZS EV. So. before we further ado, it’s pitch both the cars head to head.
The Design and Dimensions
Dimensions |
||
Mahindra XUV400 | MG ZS EV
Length (mm) | 4200 | 4323 |
Width (mm) | 1821 | 1809 |
Height (mm) | 1634 | 1649 |
Wheelbase (mm) | 2600 | 2581 |
Like most of the electric vehicles in the country, the XUV400 also started off as a car with an internal combustion engine (XUV300). Meaning, it the majority of the external components and body structure from its donor vehicle. Similarly, MG EV also borrows most of its exterior clues from Astor, its IC counterpart.
However, the most prominent change on both the vehicles one may see is definitely the paint job. Apart from that, different styles of alloy wheels are also on the list. Next, on the list of changes is the closed-off grille. Now, the car only has one inlet for the cooling mechanism for batteries and the motor.
Which vehicles offer better power and range?
Battery and Motor |
||
Mahindra XUV400 | MG ZS EV
Battery | 39.4kWh | 50.5kWh |
Motor Power | 150bhp | 176.5ps |
Torque | 310Nm | 280Nm |
0-100 Acceleration Time | Under 8.3 Sec | 8.5 Sec |
Claimed Range | 456km (Expected) | 461km |
Actual Range (in Eco)* | N.A | 350kms |
Charging Time with 50kW Charger | 50 Minutes (Upto 80%) | 60Minutes |
For some, electric cars could be boring, but when one gets behind the wheel, it’s a totally new experience. Well, as electric vehicles lack a transmission, the transmission losses in an EV are relatively low. This allows a faster acceleration time and an instant torque at almost all speeds.
Hence it is important to have a powerful yet efficient motor that could set the power down on the tarmac. In this comparo, it is the Mahindra XUV400 that has the fastest 0-100 claimed time. This also has to do with peak torque of 310Nm which also is the best in class.
Which Electric Vehicle has a better Interior and Features?
Like the exterior, other SUVs take a completely different approach to the interior. But both the vehicles share the same interior as their IC engine counterparts. But it is the MG that has better quality and a more spacious interior.
