Maruti Suzuki, India’s best selling automotive brand has been in the market for decades now. Maruti has introduced Indians to some of the most reliable, smoothest and most fuel-efficient engines we have ever seen! Today, let’s take a look at the Maruti Suzuki engine line-up for the Indian market!
-
800cc Naturally Aspirated Petrol
This one from the Maruti Suzuki engine line-up features on the beloved Alto 800. This traffic friendly engine produces enough power (48HP, 69nm) to get you around the city comfortably in as lees fuel as possible. The 800cc is capable of delivering a mileage of 22+ KM/L! In case you’re wondering, no, this is not the same engine that we saw on the OG Maruti 800.
-
1.0L Naturally Aspirated Petrol
This 1L Petrol powers the S-Presso, Celerio, and some variants of the WagonR. It produces 67HP and 90nm peak torque. On paper, this one isn’t much faster than the 800cc engine, but it does seem quicker in the real world. This engine can be mated to either a 5-Speed manual or a 5-Speed AMT gearbox.
-
1.2L K12M Naturally Aspirated Petrol
This is one the most popular engine on this list of Maruti Suzuki engine line-up! It can be seen on the Ignis and the WagonR. These are the cars that hold constant positions on the top 10 selling cars every month (except for Ignis!). Undoubtedly, this 1.2L Petrol that produces 82HP and 113nm torque is a reliable Maruti engine. It can be mated to both, a 5-Speed manual and an AMT gearbox.
-
1.2L K12N Dual-Jet Petrol
The engine is the one which we see on the evergreen Baleno, Swift and the Dzire. It produces slightly more power than the K12M (89HP), but generates the exact same amount of torque (113nm). On the road, this difference in power is clearly visible, especially on the highways where the Swift can reach some serious speeds effortlessly! This engine was rated as the most fuel-efficient engine in Q1 of 2021!
-
1.5L Naturally Aspirated Petrol
The most powerful one on the Maruti Suzuki engine line-up! The 1.5L petrol engine produces 103HP and 138nm torque. It is mostly seen on premium Maruti cars like the Ciaz, Brezza, Ertiga, XL6 and the S-Cross. It comes with either a 5-Speed manual or a 4-Speed automatic gearbox. Yes, this one desperately needs a good 6-Speed automatic gearbox!
So this was all about the Maruti Suzuki engine line-up for the Indian market. Sadly, Maruti discontinued its diesel engines to save the environment, which is good, but we do miss the diesel torque! Let us know in the comments about your pick between a diesel and a petrol engine!
