Strength, Stability, and Boldness are amongst a few things that make something indestructible. Well, this is what Indian carmakers Tata and Mahindra keep in mind when they make products for us. They have some of the most well-built and safe cars for us Indians, and even for the Indian Army! Today, let’s take a look at the 10 most indestructible cars made in India!
Mahindra’s XUV300 is the safest sub-compact SUV on sale in India right now. It scored a full 5 STAR safety rating in the Global NCAP. The XUV300 also has the most powerful diesel engine in the segment. The 1.5L motor produces 116HP and a chunky 300nm of torque.
The Punch is a micro-SUV that Tata Motors has recently launched in India. It too scored a full 5 STAR safety rating. The Punch has gone ahead of all other cars by scoring the highest safety points. Of all the Indian cars that have been tested, the Punch is the safest. It has really done a commendable job of offering amazing safety and features at a starting price of just Rs.5.49 Lakhs!
The Harrier and the Safari, both are yet to be tested for their safety, but we’re pretty sure they’ll be right up there next to all other Tata cars, if not better. We have a few facts that help us back this statement up. Firstly, both these SUVs use a platform that has been derived from the ultra-successful OMEGA ARC platform. This is based on the platform that is used on the Land Rover Discovery Sport. Secondly, ever since that Harrier was launched, many videos of it crashing with others have surfaced on the internet, and the Harrier and Safari both come out as nothing less than TANKS on the road.
The Altroz is the safest car in the premium hatchback segment. It offers a slew of safety features including traction control, ESP, cornering stability and much more. It gets 3 engine options including a 1.2L Petrol(86HP, 113nm), 1.2L turbo petrol(108HP, 140nm) and a 1.5L Diesel(88HP, 200nm).
The Nexon was India’s first to score a 5 STAR safety rating in the GNCAP and it surely deserves to be on this list! It is one of the best cars in the sub-compact SUV segment.
Now, these were some indestructible passenger cars. Let’s move on to some cars that Tata and Mahindra have made for the Indian Army, which are truly indestructible!
The Marksman offers protection from both firearms and grenades. It is armored to ‘Level B6’ and gets a Coppola machine gun mount with 270-degree traverse and protection. It also gets five-side armouring of the passenger compartment that enables protection against 5.56 x 45 mm SS109 ammo.
Tata Merlin is a light armoured multi-role vehicle (LAMV) that gets STANAG 4569 Level-1 protection. It can withstand grenades and mines too! The Merlin has a 7.6 mm medium machine gun turret on the roof and a 40 mm automatic grenade launcher. The Merlin uses a 3.3-litre diesel engine that generates roughly 185HP and 450Nm of peak torque.
Tata Safari Storme GS800
The GS800 Safari Storme is a special version of the legendary Safari that Tata made for the Indian Army. It is equipped with Tata’s supreme build quality and all the bells and whistles that our soldiers will need to move on those difficult roads. What makes the GS800 extra special is the fact that it makes 70% more power and 200% more torque than the original SUV. That means that the GS800 Safari makes a good 265HP and a massive 800nm of torque!

Some more honorary mentions for this list!
The old Tata Sierra was sold in India between 1995 and 2005. It was a massive car, especially considering the time it came out. It came with a 2L diesel engine and a 7 seater configuration. Even today, a 20-year-old Sierra feels as strong as it used to be and looks as charming as it was back then!
Last but not the least, the Mahindra Armada makes it to this list of the most indestructible cars made in India. It was in production from 1993 to 2001. It was one of the most popular people movers of its time. The Armada was also very popular in the semi-urban and rural areas of India. Mahindra’s build quality is enough to bring it to this list. Even today, an old Armada gives the same MACHO feeling that it brought with itself in the 90s.
