Nissan Magnite vs Maruti Suzuki S-Presso: Weird Comparo, But Okay!

Most of you might not even read the whole article after reading the heading. But, all I can say is, bear with me! Well, as I was on a daily hunt of prices of the new cars launched and the ones that are selling like hotcakes, this came across my eyes. The Maruti Suzuki S-Presso VXI+ AGS (Top-spec) and Nissan Magnite XE (Base) cost… Wait For It… the same! Yes, the ex-showroom price of both cars is ₹4,99,000. Now, the ones who have set their budget at this price, this comparison will surely be a good read.

Looks: Which one will look better in your garage?

This is a no brainer. The charismatic Magnite surely looks great! Spresso is a simple looking hatchback with a tallboy stance and broad front. On the other hand, Magnite is surely going to turn eyes with the larger road presence. The front, the rear, or the sides, Nissan has done a great job styling the Magnite. Still, I’ll let you be the judge of this matter and would love to hear your verdict in the comments section below.

The Powertrain: Nissan Magnite vs Maruti Suzuki Spresso

Do note that we are comparing Magnite’s base model with the top-spec Spresso. So we will only be considering the powertrain that comes with the variants.

Powertrain Comparison

Maruti Suzuki Spresso Nissan Magnite
Engine K10B Petrol B4D 1.0-litre Petrol
Power  67.98ps@5,500rpm 72ps@6,250rpm
Torque 90Nm@3,500rpm 96Nm@3,500rpm
Transmission AGS (5-speed AMT) 5-speed Manual
Fuel Efficiency 21.7kmpl 18.75kmpl

Spresso is a bit underpowered when compared to the Magnite but comes with an automatic transmission in this variant. And on the top of that, Spresso compensates the lower power figures with the higher fuel efficiency, one thing Maruti is very well known for. So, if ease of driving is what you are looking for in your next car, Maruti Suzuki Spresso VXI+ AGS might be a good choice. But there is much more to a car than the engine.

Magnite is bigger, broader and more spacious. Be it the cabin or the boot, Magnite offers a better room. The extra length, width and wheelbase are surely the reason behind it.

Safety | Let’s take a look!

Maruti Suzuki S-Presso

We all are familiar with the latest safety ratings of Maruti Suzuki Spresso. The mini-SUV scored 0 stars at the crash test. Maruti Suzuki, on the other hand, says that all their cars comply with the BNVSAP norms. Crash-test ratings are yet to come for the Magnite. Let’s compare the features.

Safety Comparison | Nissan Magnite vs Maruti Suzuki Spresso

Maruti Suzuki Spresso VXI+ AGS Nissan Magnite XE
Dual-front Airbags
ABS with EBD
Anti Roll Bar
Emergency Brake Signal
Child Lock
ISOFIX Child Seat Anchors
Speed Sensing Door Lock
Reverse Parking Sensors

I cannot emphasise on this enough, but do note that these features are for particular variants in consideration. Other variants may or may not offer these features.

That was a good comparison, I think. It’s time we take some rest and for that, we’ll have to see which car offers better comfort and convenience features.

Features Comparison | Comfort and Convenience

Maruti Suzuki Spresso VXI+ AGS Nissan Magnite XE
Infotainment System
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
Steering Mounted Audio Controls
Bluetooth Connectivity
Digital Instrument Cluster
Internal Adjustable ORVMs
Rear Parcel Tray
Remote Keyless Entry
Front Power Windows
Rear Power Windows

Now, this is where the Spresso take a lead. The top-spec it is! So, it will surely offer better features. But, what caught my attention is the rear power windows. Spresso does not offer power windows at the rear, even in the top-spec variant.

At last, all I can say is, it’s all up to the buyer. Is it the external beauty you are looking for? Or are you going to incline towards the features? Do let us know in the comments section below.
