Driving comes naturally to most of us, as a sub-conscious effect to some extent. This is why people who have been driving for years can also do other things while driving. The most common thing is using one’s phone. While it may seem okay to take your eyes off the road for a couple of seconds and check what’s going on, it can get extremely dangerous. This is why using/talking on the phone while driving has always been illegal, until now. Read ahead to see what’s new!

What’s the new rule?
In a recent meeting, Nitin Gadkari mentioned that talking on the phone while driving is now legalized. This will only hold true if the driver is using a hands-free device to take the call. The phone should not actually be in the hands of the driver. If you are using the mobile phone while talking, the police have all rights to catch you and impose a challan. However, if the device is not in your hands, they cannot impose any challans.

Is talking on the phone while driving really safe?
If you’re using a hands-free device, and all your attention is on the road, then it is safe. However, this is more of a person-to-person decision. If you’re an experienced, responsible, and confident driver, then, by all means, it is safe. But, if you’re still learning and you’re not as confident, please refrain from doing this.
With the announcement of this new rule, we can see that the government is trying to take steps forward in accepting newer technologies. Since multiple cars now get the feature of steering-mounted controls and hands-free calling, talking on the phone while driving is much safer than it used to be.
