Upcoming Renault Kiger and Its 4 closest Rivals- Sonet to Brezza

The subcompact SUV segment has seen a huge surge lately. Is it because of the affordability or is it because of its compact form and features? You be the judge. With that said almost every automobile manufacturers are coming up with their version of the best subcompact SUV with one of them being French carmaker Renault who after the success of the Triber, is all up and ready with another sub-4 metre SUV for the Indian consumers.

The all-new Renault Kiger subcompact SUV was previously scheduled to debut at the Auto Expo 2020 but was postponed to a later date for reasons unknown. So is it that Renault wants the Kiger to be its next masterpiece or it is still not capable enough to compete with its rivals. So without any further ado lets have a look at who all will the all-new Renault Kiger will be going against.

  1. Kia Sonet

    Kia is all set to take over the Indian automobile industry with another bang the Sonet sub-compact SUV which will be launched shortly and is expected to offer more advanced and up-market features than its cousin the Hyundai Venue.

    We can expect Kia to offer the Sonet in 3 engine options. This may include a couple of petrol engines and a diesel engine; A 1.2-Litre Kappa petrol engine (82ps/115 Nm), a diesel T-GDI with 99/240 Nm. The Sonet might also come with an exciting 1.0-Litre turbo petrol engine that churns out about 118ps of power and 172 Nm of torque.

    The Sonet is likely to come with a 6-speed manual transmission with optional 6-speed automatic transmission and an enthusiastic 7-speed DCT which will only be available with the turbo petrol engine.

  2. Tata Nexon

    The Tata Nexon turned out to be a promising offering in the sub-4 meter compact SUV segment and a game-changer for the company. The Nexon is not only a well-priced car but also come fully loaded with features such as fully digital instrument cluster, cruise control, a massive infotainment system, 5-star global NCAP rating and many more.

    Under its hood, the Tata Nexon features an impressive 1.2-Litre Revotron engine turbo petrol unit capable of generating 110hp with 170 Nm of peak torque while paired to a 6-speed manual and an optional AMT.

  3. Hyundai Venue

    Hyundai launched its most promising and probably India’s first connected sub-compact SUV ‘Venue’ in May 2019 and since then it has gone to become the most sold subcompact SUV.

    Under is hood the Venue 1 diesel and 2 petrol engines to offer. The 1.2-litre petrol engine generates 82hp with 114Nm of peak torque paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox while the brand new 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol unit churns 118hp with 171 Nm of peak torque which comes mated to a 6-speed manual and an optional 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

    Hyundai has also recently added a Seltos sourced 1.5-litre diesel engine which produces 98hp with 240 Nm of peak torque while paired to a manual transmission.

  4.  Maruti Suzuki Brezza

    The Vitara Brezza was Maruti’s second product in the compact SUV segment after the Grand Vitara which despite being a good car miserably failed to get any attention from the Indian consumer. But this did not happen with the Brezza as since its launch its has been on top of the charts grabbing the highest amount of sales number for the brand.

    Under its hood, the new Maruti Brezza comes equipped with a 1.5-litre K15B petrol unit capable of generating 103.5hp with 138Nm of peak torque while paired to a 5-speed manual and an optional 4-speed automatic (Torque Converter).
