A car on fire is in itself a statement, but a car actually catching fire is something that no one would actually want. This series caught the media’s attention in mid-2022 when several electric vehicles caught fire. Some called it a PR stunt, some deemed it as a move out of jealousy due to the increasing popularity of electric vehicles by ICE manufacturers, while some blamed it on technical malfunctions. Over 5 incidents of electric vehicles catching fire were reported last year. Now, this year’s first electric vehicle fire has been reported as a Tata Neoxn EV caught on fire in Pune, Maharashtra.
- This incident took place on 16th April 2023
- It is being reported that all the occupants in the car are safe
- Certain media reports also suggest that the affected car had significant damage on its front left quarter panel.
- The actual reason behind the fire is believed to be due to repairs done at an unauthorised workshop.
- According to the statement published by Tata Motors, a headlamp repair was carried out on the said Nexon EV
- The repair was done improperly, and that led to a short circuit.
- However, due to the swift thinking and action of the fire department, the fire was suppressed in due time.
- Incidents like these have raised many safety concerns which has led to the government launching a number of probes to investigate the reason behind such happenings.
