Tata Nexon Facelift: A Comprehensive Look at the Compact SUV!

Tata Motors, one of India’s most esteemed automobile manufacturers, is gearing up for an exciting launch. The highly anticipated facelift of the Tata Nexon is on the horizon, and as we draw closer to its debut, more details about the compact SUV have started to emerge.

A Dive into the Powertrain

One of the most talked-about aspects of any vehicle is its powertrain, and the Nexon facelift is no exception. The latest details reveal that Tata Motors is infusing this model with a broader variety of gearbox options, making it stand tall in the ever-competitive compact SUV segment.

While the Nexon facelift will retain its current engines – the 1.2-litre turbo-petrol and the 1.5-litre diesel, what’s stirring interest is the range of gearbox choices. Apart from the existing 6-speed manual and 6-speed AMT, the petrol version will introduce the availability of a 5-speed manual and, notably, a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. This update means that prospective buyers of the Nexon facelift 1.2 petrol can select from four distinct gearbox configurations.

Insider sources shed light on the positioning of these options: the 5-speed manual will likely grace the entry-level petrol trims, while the premium trims get treated to the 7-speed dual-clutch automatic. The mid-tier and top-tier petrol trims will still have the 6-speed manual on offer.

Previously, the absence of a sophisticated automatic gearbox in the Nexon was seen as a drawback, especially when compared to rivals like the Brezza, Venue, Sonet, Kiger, and Magnite – all of whom are equipped with more advanced systems like torque converters, CVTs, or dual-clutches. Fortunately, this facelift seeks to remedy that.

Regarding the diesel variant, it will continue its journey with the 6-speed manual and AMT options. The performance metrics, in terms of power output for both the diesel and petrol engines, remain a mystery as of now. However, there’s a prevalent sentiment that these figures will remain consistent with the outgoing models.

Redefining Style: Exterior and Interior Revamp

Moving beyond the mechanical prowess, the Nexon facelift promises a visual treat for auto enthusiasts. The exterior has undergone a significant transformation, with some design cues seemingly borrowed from Tata’s Curvv concept.

A striking change is the new split-headlamp design, creating a distinctive front profile for the vehicle. This design is complemented by a full-width LED taillight at the back, enhancing visibility and aesthetics. In addition, Tata has brought in fresh dual-tone alloy wheels, amplifying the SUV’s sporty appeal. A notable departure from the previous design is the absence of Nexon’s Y-shaped motifs, indicative of Tata’s pursuit of a more contemporary design language.

The changes aren’t just skin deep. Step inside the Nexon facelift, and you’ll be greeted with a plush, redesigned interior. A prominent update is the dashboard, which now flaunts a larger touchscreen interface. The central control panel has been reinvented with touch-based controls, promising a more intuitive user experience. Drivers will also appreciate the new digital instrument cluster, providing key information at a glance. To round it all off, a two-spoke steering wheel with backlighting ensures that the Nexon facelift’s cabin exudes a blend of functionality and sophistication.

Launch, Competition, and Pricing Insights

The automotive community is buzzing with anticipation for the Nexon facelift’s official launch, which is scheduled for mid-September. When it hits the market, it will go head-to-head with established compact SUVs like the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Renault Kiger, Nissan Magnite, Kia Sonet, and Mahindra XUV300. Interestingly, the last two in this list are also rumored to be getting updates soon, which only adds to the intensity of the competition.

With the myriad of enhancements coming to the Nexon facelift, a change in its price tag is inevitable. The current Nexon is priced between Rs 8 lakh and Rs 14.60 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Given the extensive upgrades, both in terms of performance and aesthetics, a slight price increase can be expected.

Our Take

Tata Motors is pulling out all stops with the Nexon facelift, aiming to solidify its position in the compact SUV segment. With enhanced powertrain options, a refreshed design, and revamped interiors, Tata Nexon Facelift is a testament to Tata’s commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction. As we approach its launch, one thing is clear: the compact SUV space is about to witness heightened competition and excitement.
