We will take you a few years into the past today and tell you about Tata’s undying love for the hatch-sedan combo. Be it the Indica-Indigo duo or the present-day Tiago-Tigor, Tata has always been here in the Indian automotive market with their car pairs. Let’s have a look at all the Tata hatchback sedan duo that have been here through time.
-
Indica – Indigo
Tata started this trend with the launch of Indica. India’s first indigenous hatchback. But there were still some people who were thrilled by Indica’s design but still wished it to be a sedan. Realising the demand for a sedan that would look similar to India, Tata started the trend of extending the boot! Just after India had experienced the sedan-hatch duo with Opel, Tata made their Indigo enter the Indian market. This sedan shared almost everything with the Indica in terms of design and had some minor tweaks with the engine.
-
Indica Vista – Indigo Manza
Continuing the trend, when Tata decided to facelift the Indica, they also launched the new Indigo Manza with it. Although Manza did not sell that good in the Indian market, Indica Vista did considerably good. Carrying the Indica-Indigo legacy forward, people expected too much from the new facelifted versions and we guess they could not match the expectations. Unfortunately, this hatchback-sedan duo could not do that great in the Indian market. But Tata didn’t lose hope here! We have more duos down the list.

Bolt – Zest
At this point of time, Tata got over the names, Indica and Indigo. This is when the Indian automaker came up with a brand new car in the market with a brand new name! The Tata Zest was finally here! But did Tata come up with only 1 car this time? No! Tata Motors had made a hatchback sedan duo this time too. With the Tata Zest, came in the Tata Bolt. Once again, the Indian automaker had carried their legacy of making and launching duos in the market forward with the launch of this pair in the Indian market. But just like the Vista-Manza duo, this one also couldn’t do well in the market.

Tiago – Tigor
After the not-so-great response for the previous hatchback sedan duos, Tata definitely had to plan a really good one this time. Enter- Lord Tiago! Well, the latest hatchback sedan duo by Tata Motors is successful, so much so, that people are buying the hatch in numbers comparable to the top-selling cars in the country. Talking about the sedan counterpart of the Tiago, the Tata Tigor also sells great in the Indian market. With minor cosmetic differences, you can consider buying any one of them if you are among those who prefer safety over mileage! No, we are not pointing out any particular brand here.
