Before the mid-1990s, the company just used to assemble the vehicles. What vehicles? you may ask. Well, the famous Willys jeeps and some of its different versions. All of the operations of Mahindra and Mahindra was carried out here in India.

  • Later in 1996, the company decided to elevate to the next level by producing their own SUVs. It was indeed a good plan but there was a catch, no one at the company knew how to make vehicles, as all they did was assemble. And Oh boy! it’s a herculean task researching, designing and testing a vehicle.
  • So later they did manufacture or rather assemble the car but with the help of their suppliers. Every supplier researched, designed and tested their product and gave it to Mahindra and Mahindra. The company just gave them the dimensions and designs.

Mahindra Scorpio also came as a pickup truck. For those who don’t know what a pickup truck is, it is a double-cab with a flatbed to carry the load instead of the boot. This also came as a 4*4 variant for those who wanted to go a mile ahead.

  • It was powered by the same engines as the conventional Scorpio with the same tune. The two engine options were CRDe and mHawk engines.
  • This didn’t make a good mark and is usually in large demand out of India.

This is what the life of still ongoing Mahindra Scorpio looks like. You may wonder I haven’t mentioned the 4*4 variants. This is because each and every Scorpio from the beginning offered an off-roader 4*4 transmission to enhance its capabilities. Currently, a new Scorpio might be on its way possible with a new engine and features. The last-gen was discontinued due to the updated emission norms.
