Needless to say, Maruti Suzuki has been leading the car sales in India for long now. For the month of July 2020 too, Maruti Suzuki is the first one among the top 10 selling car brands in India. Also, Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 was the highest seller for this month and experienced a sale of 13,654 units. Collectively, MSIL has achieved a sale of 97,768 cars in the previous month and a YoY growth of 1,290 units (1.34%).

  2. Hyundai

Hyundai has experienced a slight drop in YoY sales. If we compare Hyundai’s July 2019 sale figure to the July 2020 sales figure, they have sold 810 units less. But still, with a sale of 38,200 units, Hyundai has ranked second on the list of top-selling car brands, July 2020.

  3. Tata Motors

    Tata Altroz

This Indian automaker has completely revolutionised their lineup in the recent past. Now you would see some really feature-loaded and power-packed cars in Tata’s lineup. Be it Nexon, Nexon EV or the Altroz, all of them have helped Tata gain a very good sales number and stand at the third place in the list of top-selling brands in July 2020. Tata Motors sold a total of 15,000 vehicles which means they had over 43% YoY growth which is commendable considering the ongoing pandemic.

  4. Mahindra & Mahindra

Another homegrown automaker! Mahindra has made it to the fourth place in the list of top-selling brands however, they have experienced a drop if we compare the July 2019 sales to this year’s sales. Mahindra sold a total of 11,025 units this year in the month of July 2020. If we compare it to July 2019’s sale figures, Mahindra has experienced a drop of 31.20%. We guess holding the launch of the new XUV500 and the Thar have made them experience this dip. However, the new Thar is finally about to launch on August 15th.

  5. Kia Motors

With just two cars in it’s India lineup, Kia Motors has been showing an exceptional growth ever since it entered our nation. For the month of July 2020, Kia recorded a sale of 8,502 units and just because they were not here in July 2019, we can just appreciate the numbers they have gained with such a small lineup in the ongoing pandemic times.

  6. Renault

Another carmaker setting the market on fire is Renault. With the ever-growing sales of the Kwid facelift, the launch of the Triber has also given a nice push to the sale number. As we mentioned in the title of this article, Renault is the one to experience the maximum YoY growth of over 75%! Yes, you read that right. Call it the launch of some really VFM cars or people getting bored of what they have been buying till now and hence trying new car brands. Whatever you may call it, but Renault has shown the potential to be one of the top-selling car brands in India.

  7. Toyota Kirloskar Motor

While the Japanese automaker has already teased the upcoming Urban Cruiser which will be the rebadged Vitara Brezza, they have landed on the 7th place in the list of top 10 selling car brands in the month of July 2020. Toyota sold a total of 5,386 units in the last month while they had sold over 10k units in July 2019. The sales have dropped by almost 50% and we are curious to see what Toyota does to win the market back.

  8. Honda Cars India

Although they have launched the new City and the new WRV, we suppose they were not powerful enough to attract many customers during the pandemic. Honda Cars India is the second brand which has experienced almost 50% YoY sale drop. Honda sold a total of 5,383 units this July while the sale for July 2019 was over 10k for this brand too! We hope the new City will help them revive their sales really soon.

  9. Ford India

The American DNA in India is also among the ones to face a drop in sales this time. Standing on the 8th place on the list of top-selling car brands in India for the month of July 2020, Ford sold 3,937 units in the last month. Comparing this number to the July 2019 sales, Ford had a drop of about 37%.

  10. Morris Garages (MG India)

    MG ZS EV
    MG ZS EV

With the recent launch of the Hector Plus, this brand is expected to grow further in terms of sales. It was here in July 2019 but had only Hector in the lineup. Considering that, MG has definitely gained a YoY growth but the sale figure is not quite good. Therefore, MG stands on the last place in our list of top-selling car brands in India in July 2020. FYI, MG sold 2,105 units in the last month.

These were the top 10 selling car brands in India in the month of July 2020. Renault has shown the highest sale growth and therefore the highest potential to emerge as a better car brand in India too. Here is a tabular representation of the brands and sales for your reference.
