Got a new job in a different state! but still worried about the hefty relocation and RTO charges for your car? Here comes Road and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari to the rescue!
MoRTH (Ministry of Road Transport and Highways) has recently proposed a new rule allowing free movement of all personal vehicles if its owner tends to relocate to a different state for professional reasons.
The scheme is being introduced for helping all government and private professionals as relocation have become a very common practice for both sectors. According to a survey conducted by MoRTH, it shows relocation creates a sense of unease regarding the gruesome process of re-registration of vehicles from their parent state to another.

This new rule is aimed at centralising the re-registration system of vehicles between states. Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister also stated that the new rules also come with many preconditions as well.
Going by leading media reports, a notification from MoRTH also stated that this rule will be applicable to all including- defence government and other private employees.
The Ministry also issued a statement which said, “Under the MV Act, 1988, a person is allowed to keep the vehicle for 12 months in any state other than the state where the vehicle is registered. But a new registration with the new state- registering authority has to be made within 12 months.”
The new draft also proposed an all-new AI-based vehicle registration system under which all vehicles being transported to be registered under a new category- ‘IN’
The trials will soon begin all over the country before making any final over its implementation, the statement said.
The new ‘IN’ series will be available Defence personnel, employees of Central Government, State Governments, Central/ State PSUs and private sector companies/organisations, which have their offices in five or more States/Union Territories,”
