Even the Indian Government is taking the necessary steps to make roads safe. That said, by now Global NCAP has tested over 50 cars that are sold in the Indian market. So, if you are in the market to purchase a new vehicle, what are your safer car options? If we had to say definitely cars with 5 stars ratings would definitely be safe, 4 stars can also be termed as more than adequately safe.

In ascending price order, here are 10 affordable cars securing 4 and 5 stars ratings in the Global NCAP.

Note: The price mentioned are ex-showroom prices as of 17th February 2022.

  1. Tata Tigor/ Tata Tiago | ₹5.79 Lakh / ₹5.19 Lakh ⭐⭐⭐⭐

    As of now, Tata Tiago or Tigor is the cheapest vehicle to score an astonishing 4-star rating. Well, the vehicle that was tested at the facility was Tata Tigor. But sharing some front section Tiago too would possibly get a similar 4-star crash test rating.

    That said, Tigor managed to get a 12.52 rating in the adult occupancy. Looking at the child seat occupant, Tigor/Tiago got 3 stars and 34.15 out of 49. But in the end, the catch is that the bodyshell integrity came out to be unstable.

Tata Punch scored a whopping 16.45 out of 17 in its crash test rating for adult occupancy. For child occupancy, Tata Punch also boasts 4 stars with a rating of 40.89 out of 49.   3. Renault Triber | ₹5.67 Lakh ⭐⭐⭐⭐

    Surprise surprise! A sub ₹6 lakh MPV scored a 4-star rating in the Global NCAP (Interesting. Some cars despite costing 4 times, marginally scored 3 stars). Though Renault Triber shares the same platform as the Kwid, which didn’t have a safe rating, Triber is safe.

    Triber managed to get an 11.62 score out of 17 for adult occupancy. Triber also got a decent score of 27 out of 49 and a 3-star rating for child occupancy too. Keeping that aside, it has unstable bodyshell integrity.

  4. Nissan Magnite | ₹5.76 Lakh ⭐⭐⭐⭐

    Moving on, the next subcompact SUV to get a safe vehicle tag is the Nissan Magnite. Well, India made Magnite was also tested before at the ASEAN NCAP where too the car managed to get a decent 4-star rating. Now, it is the Global NCAP too Magnite got a score of 11.85 out of 17 for adult occupancy. In child occupancy, Magnite got 2 stars as it misses out on child seat anchor points and got a mere 24.88 out of 49.

  5. Renault Kiger | ₹5.79 Lakh ⭐⭐⭐⭐

    Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger sharing the same platform were bound to get similar crash test ratings at the Global NCAP. Like Nissan, Renault Kiger scored, 12.34 out of 19 and 21.07 out of 49 in adult and child occupancy respectively.

Tested a couple of years ago, along with full five starts, the SUV scored 16.06 out of 17 in adult occupancy, and Nexon also got 25.0 out of 49 giving it 3 stars in child occupancy. Not to forget, the bodyshell integrity came out to be stable.

  8. Honda Jazz | ₹7.81 Lakh ⭐⭐⭐⭐

    Among the first vehicle from Honda to get tested in the Global NCAP facility is their premium hatchback, Jazz. Honda Jazz is safe and scored a 4-star rating for adult occupancy and 3 for child occupancy. Also, both the scores read 13.89 and 31.54 respectively.

  9. Mahindra XUV300 | ₹8.16 Lakh ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

    The only c-segment sedan that has been tested at the Global NCAP facility with a 4-star rating is the 4th gen Honda City. Well, you should not confuse with the 5th gen City which scored full 5 stars in the ASEAN NCAP.

    Another fact, the car tested at the facility was not made in India. Still, the 4th gen Honda City got 12.03 out of 17 in adult occupancy and 38.27 (4 stars) in child occupancy. But the body is said to be unstable.

To date, the safest made in India vehicle to be tested at the Global NCAP facility is the Mahindra XUV700. The new entrant in the Indian market, XUV700 socred an amazing 16.03 out of 17 for adult occupancy. And 41.66 out of 49 in child seat occupancy. Also, after the crash, the body shell was stable.

  1. Don’t use term cheap cars for standard brands like TATA in image, this is word which destroyed our best budget car TATA NANO also so stop using such phrases for our indian brands. Can you dare to do the same with foreign brands?
