A lot of hard work, money and time goes into developing a new car. Every car manufacturer has high hopes from their models. Some do great and some don’t, but some are an absolute flop. Today we at Gomechanic are going to give you an insight on 5 cars that got discontinued within 5 years of their launch.

Tata Tiago and Tigor JTP
Car enthusiasts absolutely rejoiced when Tata introduced hot versions of their regular cars Tiago and Tigor, namely the Tiago and Tigor JTP. They got a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine from the BS4 Nexon which pushed power to an amazing 112 BHP; which is bonkers for cars of that size. Sadly they couldn’t attract buyers mostly because of their tiny size and just like many great cars, it was shelved by the brand in 2020.

Renault Captur
When the French giants launched the Captur in 2017, it showed great potential. It had a 1.5-litre engine producing 104 BHP, decent interiors and an overall funky personality. But Indians wanted a more macho and muscular car for their money and due to that, the Captur failed miserably. Renault pulled the plug on it in 2020.

Volkswagen Ameo
It’s pretty surprising to see a failed car from such a successful company. While the Polo is still going strong even after 10 years, its older cousin the Ameo wasn’t so lucky. It was launched in 2016 and was supposed to take on the likes of the MS Dzire and the Honda Amaze, but its boxy looks and faulty valve issue lead to its own death and it was discontinued by VW in 2020.

MS Baleno RS
This is the most shocking name in this list considering how successful Baleno has been in India. In 2017 Maruti Suzuki decided to get a little exciting and gave us the Baleno RS. It was a 5 seater absolute monster on the track. Powering this car was a 1.0 turbocharged petrol engine churning out 100 BHP which was enough to run doughnuts around chicks all day long.
But Indians couldn’t give two shits about performance(when do they ever have) and that leads to low sales of the RS. It did not make the BS6 checklist and was shelved in 2020. And then we keep complaining about boring cars! -
Honda BR-V
The BR-V was a pretty strange car since its dawn in 2016. First of all, Honda already had Mobilio to offer as an MPV and Cr-V as the bigger SUV. So really, where did the BR-V stood? I guess after 4 years even Honda couldn’t find an answer and thus when the BS6 regulations came, they pulled the plug on it.
Some of them were great cars and some were not, but it’s pretty unfair to them as they did not even get a chance. Know of any other cars which got discontinued way too soon? Let us know the comments. Till then these 5 cars discontinued within 5 years of their launch
