When it comes to the absolute success of a company, it all comes to sales. The cars they buy the most reflects a lot about the particular country, their economy, their culture and the mindset of the people. They can be considered as the automobile ambassadors of their countries too. So we at GoMechanic are here today with 5 countries and their best-selling car.
-
Pakistan- Suzuki Alto
Let’s kick off this list by talking about our neighbours, Pakistan. Their best selling vehicle? A Suzuki Alto. And no, it’s not the same Alto that we get in India. MS introduced this small hatchback in 2019 in place of the Mehran( basically an older generation 800) and it quickly topped the charts, selling 23,479 units in 2020. It also defeated the reigning best selling car, the Toyota Corolla in 2019.
The Alto is a no-nonsense basic car. Powered by a 660cc engine, it is ideal for a country so dense and also very fuel-efficient. Don’t get deceived by its looks, it doesn’t come with a 4×4 option. -
The UK- Ford Fiesta
Oh, queen my queen. The UK has its own share of great cars with indigenous companies like Bentley and Aston Martin, but when it comes to the best selling car; Ford takes the centre stage. With 49,117 registrations to its name, it just managed to retain its spot against the Vauxhall Corsa. It is a pretty decent and comfortable hatchback producing around 130 BHP and has all the bells and whistles that you expect from a car in that price bracket. Ford India, please bless us and introduce the Fiesta ST to India!
-
China- Nissan Sylphy
Looking for the VW? Sorry, there’s a new king now. 2020 was a pretty bad year of China, but not for Nissan as they sold a whopping 538,680 units of their sedan, the ‘Sylphy’. Introduced in 2019, it quickly became the favourite amongst the Chinese.
The model introduced in China comes with a 139hp 1.6-litre HR16DE engine, combined with a CVT automatic gearbox. In other markets, the new Sylphy could get 1.8-litre petrol or even a larger 2.0-litre motor that’s good for 140hp. Nissan says that it almost has the same drag coefficient as their flagship supercar, the Nissan Skyline GTR. This shows that China does have an exquisite taste when it comes to cars, unlike food. Oops! -
US Of America- Ford F150
The only pickup on this list, and wasn’t it obvious. The US has the biggest market share when it comes to big brawny pickups and their best selling vehicle is also a Ford 150 pickup. We are not sure of the specific model, whether its the Ranger, the Raptor or the big daddy F-150 but the badge is the undisputed king with a mindboggling 787,422 units sold in 2020! Let that sink in for a minute.
There are a number of drivetrains for the big daddy but the favourite one is the 3.5 litre Ecoboost producing 375 BHP. -
India- Maruti Suzuki Swift
You already knew this, didn’t you? Although there is stiff competition from the Alto 800, Swift is still the reigning defending best selling car in India with 1,60,765 units sold in 2020. It’s everything you want from a budget car. Stylish looks, comfy cabin and a torquey 1.2-litre engine and most importantly, efficient. The Alto recently overtook it in January 2021 but we are sure the Swift will catch up soon.
Whether you like them or not, they sure are adored by the people of their country. So there you go guys;5 countries and their best-selling car.
