5 Good Discontinued Crossover Cars In India

While hatchbacks, sedans and SUVs are all great at offering different styles and practicality, sometimes what we need is the best of both worlds. This is where a crossover comes in. Offering a bit of world, crossovers offer maximum practicality, superb performance and ample style. But despite being a great package, there are crossovers that couldn’t live up to all their hype. Here are 5 discontinued crossovers in India.

  1. Tata Aria

    Discontinued: 2017

One of the oldest crossovers in India, this one was rather unusual. As per Tata Motors, the Aria was men to be a crossover between MPV, SUV and even a sedan; something that made the Aria one of a kind. The looks were rather simple, and carrier Tata’s then-dominant design language. But facing fierce competition from the XUV 500, the Aria couldn’t match up and was eventually discontinued.

  2. Toyota Etios Cross

    Discontinued: 2020

With a successful run of the Toyota Etios Liva, Toyota decided to do something more with its promising hatchback. The result was the Liva inspired Toyota Etios Cross that was equipped with a heavy and sporty body kit, bigger bumpers and strong plastic cladding all around. The Crossover hatch was also given silver touches and a new set of sportier alloys that made the vehicle a more rugged look. Compared to the Liva, the Cross was longer, wider and taller, but despite being a decent crossover, its boxy design and dated interiors, made it take a leave from the market.

  3. Fiat Avventura

    Discontinued: 2019

A hatch crossover that was actually built well, the Avventura was truly a capable crossover. Based on the Fiat Punto, everything about the Avventura made it a true-blue crossover. It was not only longer, wider and taller, but also had an increased ground clearance of about 205mm. In fact, Fiat actually went ahead in terms of style and even included a tailgate-mounted spare tyre that made the Avventura quite a good looking crossover. But with Ford’s after-sales service lacking a bit as compared to what it is now, the Avventura just couldn’t attract many consumers.

  4. Renault Captur

    The Renault Capture

    Discontinued: 2020

Launched back in 2017, the Renault Captur was dubbed as the brand’s premium SUV with a crossover DNA. The looks, however, didn’t resonate with that of a rugged SUV but looked more like a premium CUV that looked quite well balanced. In terms of crossover practicality, the Captur did have 210 mm of ground clearance, and a mid-sized stance, the Captur owing to its good-boyish looks couldn’t target the audience it was meant for and was quick to leave the market in 2020.

  5. Volkswagen Polo Cross

    Discontinued: 2015

A shocking entry on the list, the Volkswagen Polo Cross was actually one of the first crossover hatchbacks in India. Launched back in 2013, the Cross Polo was essentially a bit sportier iteration of the Polo that was wrapped around in plastic cladding all around. This also gave the Cross a bit larger dimension than its regular counterpart. However, despite subtle sporty changes, the Polo Cross did not impress the masses and was soon to go off the charts.
