Its official, Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has mandated that all cars in India will have 6 airbags! This rule has been in the pipeline for a while now, but now it will be implemented very soon. Up until now, dual front airbags were mandatory on Indian roads, however, this measure has been taken to enhance the safety of the passengers even further.

6 Airbags As Standard?
YES! All cars that can seat up to 8 people will have 6 airbags irrespective of its price, segment or variant. A concept that seemed alien to entry-level buyers will now become a reality. Gone are those days when you’d have to pay more to stay safe. The government has realized the importance of road safety and that every individual must have an equal opportunity to survive an accident. 6 airbags will be mandated on all cars starting October 2022!

Will 6 Airbags Result In Price Hikes?
It is possible that manufacturers will increase car prices by roughly Rs. 65000 to cope with the costs of the 4 additional airbags. Smaller cars that do not have the body structure that can adapt to 6 airbags might need a structural revamp as well.
