We first saw the car in the 2020 Indian Auto Expo with the nearly finished car. Kia Sonet will be the third vehicle in the Korean automaker’s India lineup. After the immense success of the Seltos and the Carnival, Kia plans to try their hand at a new segment. The latest shots we got are from Anantapur. The test mule for this SUV was spotted testing again outside the manufacturing facility at Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh. The subcompact SUV is still in the early stages of production.

The dealers have got a 10-day relaxation after the lockdown ends. The Supreme Court of India took this decision to let the dealers sell the leftover BS4 stock. Though Kia made its entry in the Indian market with BS6 compliant engines only, sales have dipped for them too. Kia Sonet is still in camouflage. The only highlight clearly visible on the Kia Sonet test mule was the 16-inch 5-spoke diamond-cut alloy wheels. The infotainment system is raised from the dash and this time, we didn’t see any roof rails too. Maybe, it was a lower variant this time.
Like the other Korean sibling, Kia Sonet might be offering 3 engine options. This may include a couple of petrol engines and a diesel engine.
- A 1.2-Litre Kappa petrol engine which produces 82ps@6,000rpm of power and about 115Nm@4,000rpm of torque.
- Kia Sonet might also come with an exciting 1.0-Litre turbo petrol engine. That churns out about 118ps@6,000rpm of power and 172Nm@1,500rpm of torque.
- A diesel burner might also come with the Kia. Which will be offering 99ps@4,000rpm of power and about 240Nm@1,500rpm of torque
