Kia is all up and ready to unveil its much-awaited sub-4 meter SUV Kia Sonet which is set to make its global debut India and around the world. With just days to go from its official unveil a new set of images have stormed the internet of the production-ready model of Kia’s new entrant.
This aggressively styled subcompact SUV first made its debut at the Auto Expo 2020 and is expected to launch during the festive season and will compete against the likes of some of the segment toppers such as the Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV300, Tata Nexon and the undisputed king of the roads the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza.
- These spy images captured by Motoroids show a semi camouflaged unit of a lower-spec variant of the Kia Sonet as it features basic steel wheels with wheel covers and a traditional radio antenna instead of alloy wheels and a shark-fin antenna unit.
- These spy shots also provide a clear view of the Sonet’s rear profile which features an integrated spoiler, wraparound LED taillights, high mounted stop lamp, raked windshield, bumper with faux skid plate and reflectors, bumper-mounted number plate, black cladding between the windshield and the C-pillar and centre aligned Sonet badging on the boot.
- Not much can be said about its interior features as we only get to see its first-in-segment rear AC vents brushed with aluminium inserts.
- Another spy image of the Sonet’s side profile reveals a few extra details such as body cladding, chunky wheel arches, a prominent shoulder line which runs till the end of the rear doors and merges with the rear quarter glass.
- Additional features on the Kia Sonet includes the brands signature tiger-nose grille, dual-tone alloy wheels (reserved for the top-spec), faux skid plate on the front bumper, a segment-first 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with UVO connectivity, flat-bottom steering wheel, ventilated seats and wireless charging to name a few.
- On the mechanical front, the Kia Sonet will come equipped with a 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol unit, 1.0-litre turbo petrol and a 1.0-litre diesel unit capable of generating 82hp with 114Nm of torque, 118hp with 172Nm of torque and 99hp with 240Nm of torque respectively.
- All the three engine mills will come mated to a standard 6-speed manual gearbox and an optional 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox. Additionally, the turbo-petrol mill will also have an optional iMT.
