The much-awaited subcompact SUV from Kia, the Sonet has been revealed. Kia Seltos has already proven its mantle in its segment. Some may say that success was also possible because there was no Maruti Suzuki in the segment. Now, after the Kia Sonet is launched, it will directly rival the segment’s best-seller, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza. So, here is a list of points that can prove to be crucial in the rivalry.
-
Powerful Engine Options
Engine Comparison
Kia Sonet Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza Engine SMART STREAM G 1.2 Petrol SMART STREAM 1.0 T-GDi 1.5-litre CRDi WGT 1.5-litre CRDi VGT K15B (1.5-litre) Power 83ps@6,300rpm 120ps@6,000rpm 100ps@4,000rpm 115ps@4,000rpm 104.6ps@6,000 rpm Torque 115 Nm@4,200 rpm 172 Nm@1,500-4,000 rpm 240 Nm@1,500-2,750rpm 250 Nm@1,500-2,750rpm 138Nm@4,400 rpm Transmission 5-speed MT 7-speed DCT / 6-speed iMT 6-speed MT 6-speed AT 5-speed MT / 4-speed AT - Kia Sonet has got 4 engine options at the offer. Except for the naturally aspirated petrol engine, all the other options are powerful when compared to Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza.
- Kia Sonet will offer a variety of transmission options too. According to the engine, you can choose MT, AT, iMT or the DCT. Brezza, on the other hand, offers an MT and AT only.
- Kia Sonet will surely have an upper hand because of the GT line, as Brezza has no turbo-petrol at the offer. There is no diesel option with the Brezza too.
- Do note that Maruti Brezza has Progressive Hybrid Smart Technology. It has idle start-stop, brake energy regeneration and torque assist.
-
Segment’s Largest Infotainment System
Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza has got a 17.78cm Touchscreen infotainment system. Kia Sonet will offer a 26.03cm HD Touchscreen Infotainment system making it the largest in the segment. Both of the cars have a navigation system and Android Auto / Apple CarPlay support.
-
Front Ventilated Seats
Kia Sonet will feature front ventilated seats, a feature that Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza misses on. The front ventilated seats ensure better comfort, especially on the long drives.
-
Electric Sunroof
It is a feature that all the Maruti Suzuki cars miss on. Kia Sonet will feature an electric sunroof. Considered luxury in older days, electric sunroof has become a vital part of the premium cars nowadays, Kia Sonet will have an upper hand in the premium department.
-
‘Hello Kia’ UVO Connect
Kia Sonet will be a connected car, another feature that Maruti Suzuki Brezza will miss on. Kia’s UVO Connect provides over 57 features which include remote control, vehicle management, AI voice command and much more.
-
Drive Modes In GT Line
The Kia Sonet’s GT line variant is one of the most awaited ones in the lineup. And unlike Brezza, it will offer drive modes. Normal, Eco and Sport are the modes that one can select the mode depending upon his/her choice. Maruti Suzuki Brezza does not offer this feature too.
-
Safety Loaded
Sonet is going to boast some features that Maruti Suzuki Brezza lack on. These include the Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), Front Parking Sensors, Traction Control (GT Line only), full LED headlights and taillights and so on. Sonet also features a Smart Pure air purifier with virus protection, which will be beneficial in such times. Do note that Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza has scored a 4-star rating at the Global NCAP whereas there is no such rating for the Sonet yet. The actual safety parameters will become clear once the Sonet is launched.
-
Better Ground Clearance
Maruti Suzuki Brezza has a grounded clearance of 200mm whereas Kia’s subcompact SUV offers 211mm of it. 11mm better means a lot, especially when we are talking about the Indian roads! Right?
-
Larger Boot Space
Kia has offered a boot space of 392 litres whereas Brezza has 328 litres to offer. It means that Sonet will offer better space for your luggage next time you plan a long trip.
-
Competitive Pricing expected
Although there is no official confirmation about the price, Kia is expected to price the Sonet in the price bracket of ₹7 lakhs to ₹12 lakhs. This will pose a threat to Maruti Suzuki Brezza for sure if Kia keeps the price range as expected.
So, what do you think about the upcoming sub-compact SUV? Will it be able to take down the leader? Or will the Maruti Suzuki Brezza remain the best seller? Let us know in the comments section below.
What could be its cost and mileage.
Because Indian markets are ruled by Price and mileage and more importantly service.
Every nukad and galli has a maruti service centre.
Hi Vamsi,
We cannot comment about the cost at present. As for the mileage, you can expect it to be in between 17-23kmpl, like that of the Hyundai Venue. For the service part, you can always rely on GoMechanic for industry-grade service with up to 40% savings. Stay tuned!
Seems impressive features. But till one is able to have a drive real comment is not possible.
Hi Karan,
True. The final verdict will only be possible once the Sonet is driven in real conditions. Stay tuned!
