The Indian audience already knows much about the tallboy hatch but there is still some information which needs to be conveyed. As the title already tells you that today, we are answering the top 10 most Googled questions about WagonR. Here’s what India wants to know about one of the top-selling cars in the MS lineup.
-
Does the Maruti WagonR have a sunroof?
Unfortunately, not. WagonR does not have a sunroof in any of its variants as of now. Apart from the sunroof, Maruti should also consider putting in other modern-day features like projector headlamps, DRLs etc. Just to let you know, the WagonR Stingray had projector headlamps. We are still trying to figure out why Maruti removed such a feature in the new current generation.
-
Which model of WagonR is the best?
WagonR is available in multiple variants which have two engine options. Both the 1.0-litre and the 1.2-litre engine offer manual as well as automatic transmission starting from the VXi variant. If you want to go for CNG, it is only available with the LXi variant. Therefore, depending upon your choice, you can choose a variant that’s the perfect fit for you.
-
Is WagonR good for long drives?
Well, it is a perfect family car but considering long journeys, the people at the back might have to struggle a bit if 5 passengers are travelling at the same time at the back seat. Talking about the driving experience, the 1.2-litre engine can be good to drive whereas the 1.0-litre engine is not so exciting to drive as it feels underpowered if compared to the 1.2-litre counterpart.
-
Is WagonR VXi a good car?
If you are looking for features, WagonR LXi won’t offer you anything. If you decide to upgrade to the VXi variant you will get basic modern-day features like power windows and body-coloured handles and ORVMs. The highlight is the infotainment system which you might get otherwise but you need to pay less when it comes as a package. You can anytime go for an aftermarket CNG if you prefer running your car on CNG.
-
What is the price of WagonR VXi?
The current ex-showroom price for the VXi variant of the tallboy is Rs. 4.9Lakhs. However, the on-road price might vary depending upon your location.
-
Is WagonR safe?
In simple words, NO. WagonR scored a 2-star rating which means it is not at all safe. However, it has got some safety features like seatbelt reminder, airbags and optional ABS. While the test was conducted, the driver’s deck showed adequate protection while the passenger’s deck lacked safety. FYI, the Hyundai Santro has also got the same Global NCAP rating.

Why WagonR is so popular?
One of the most important factors that Indians consider while buying a car is mileage. Saving on the fuel cost is what every Indian wants to do making it one of the major reasons why Maruti’s tallboy hatch sells so much in India! WagonR offers 21.79kmpl for the 1-litre petrol, 20.52kmpl for 1.2-litre petrol and a whopping 32.52km per kg for thee CNG variant!
-
Which is better WagonR or Swift?
As both of them belong to the same family, they are more or less the same (in terms of safety). On other aspects like comfort and convenience, you would find Swift a little better than WagonR and just because it is better on some aspects like the ride quality and engine power, you need to pay more than what you would have paid to buy the tallboy. Swift starts at Rs.5.19Lakhs (ex-showroom) while the tallboy has a starting price of Rs. 4.51Lakhs only. It totally depends upon what you are looking for in your future car to choose between these two.
-
Is WagonR a 7-seater?
We saw this at the 2013 Indonesia International Motor Show. However, there has been no news about the launch of this vehicle till now. Talking about India, we have seen the Suzuki Solio testing many times on the road but the brand has not made any official announcements about its launch. Seeing this tallboy’s success in the hatch market, Maruti would definitely want to take it to the MPV market we suppose.
-
Is WagonR good for hills?
It doesn’t have a hill assist. Moreover, if you are driving a CNG variant you will feel drastic power loss on the hills. Even if you are driving a petrol unit, you won’t feel that much confidence behind the wheel on a hill because it’s a WagonR. People usually buy it for its mileage and use it within the city only. We highly recommend using WagonR as a city car only.
