After a speculated exit of the American carmaker Ford from India, the company has teased a new automatic gearbox for its hatchback, Figo. The Figo with a petrol engine and an auto box was supposed to enter the Indian market last year, which never happened though. But now, Ford has announced the entry of new transmission in its only hatchback Figo. The company will be launching this hatchback with an AT on 22nd July 2021, mark the dates.
What are the changes under the hood?
That said, earlier in the BS4 avatar, Ford Figo came powered with a 1.5-litre naturally aspired engine.
- This motor coupled with a 6-speed torque converter gave the car good driving capabilities.
- But now, in the new BS6 trim, we can expect the hatchback to come with a torque converter but with the same 1.2-litre engine.
- Talking about this engine, it is capable of generating a peak power of 95bhp and 119Nm of maximum torque. As of now, this motor comes with a 5-speed manual transmission.
- With an addition of an automatic gearbox for sure, the car will appeal to a wider set of audience.
What will be the Ford Figo’s Price?
Considering the market, Ford Figo being a premium hatchback is priced pretty low. Regardless of the price, the hatchback comes will all the necessary features. This includes good quality interiors with a potent petrol engine. Talking about the engine, it is a refined 4 cylinder unit that is fairly free-revving. But the caveat is that the engine lacks low-end grunt.
That said, this hatchback rivals the likes of the OG cars like the Hyundai i20, Tata Altorz, Maruti Suzuki Baleno and more. Also, a thing to note is that this is among the most powerful premium hatchbacks you can buy today.
We can expect Ford to launch the Ford Figo AT in the Titanium and also Blu variants. And we assume this hatchback to be priced at around ₹8 Lakh – ₹9 Lakh (ex-showroom).
