Buying Under 10 Lakhs | Micro SUV vs Hatchback?

The market has evolved significantly with time. Having a budget under 10 lakhs gives you a choice of various segments and cars. It includes everything from entry-level hatchbacks to compact SUVs. But we all know SUVs have taken over the hatchback segment in India, be it compact SUVs or Micro SUVs. Let’s compare what would be a better pick under this budget:

Engine & Fuel Efficiency

Nissan Magnite Red Edition

Comparing hatchbacks and & micro SUVs, the first factor we start with is the engine & fuel efficiency. Considering micro SUVs such as Magnite, it offers the same 1.0-liter engine in both naturally aspirated & turbo stages, making up to 98hp. It offers a fuel efficiency of up to 19kmpl with the receptive variants.

Hatchbacks, on the other hand, come with a similar engine, usually, a 1.0 or a 1.2-litre, and some offer a 1.5-litre diesel engine. The naturally aspirated versions make about 88hp, while the turbo variants churn out 120hp. They offer a fuel efficiency of 20-25kmpl. There are factory-fitted CNG versions also on offer, and the turbo variants might not come under 10 lakhs.

The major design difference is the stance and the ground clearance. If you are driving on Indian roads with the turmoil of the rainy season and the potholes, the added ground clearance is always an advantage. These micro SUVs, such as Magnite, have a ground clearance of 205mm.

Both these car types offer a similar amount of space, but SUVs offer slightly more room in the boot along with more headroom. While the hatchbacks offer a ground clearance of around 170-178mm, they are suitable for daily city drives and some long drives too. But in case of bad roads, they might not soften the bumps.
